Alex Round vs. TBA
Hangar Events Venue, Wolverhampton, England – 6 May 2022
Alex Round is fighting fit and ready to strike again in the middleweight division with his first bout of 2022.
He’s back in action as part of BCB Promotions’ show in Wolverhampton, at the Hangar Events Venue (Pearson Street), on the Friday evening of May 6.
Round was due to box at the same venue in February, but pulled out of proceedings for personal reasons, although he has returned with a vengeance.
The 24-year-old estate agent, who grew up in nearby Wednesfield but now lives in Stafford, has undergone an eight-week fight camp in preparation.
That has been spent with Richie Carter’s Pro Boxing Stable at Wolverhampton Boxing Club, with coach and ex-pro Carter getting him grafting again.
Round already has two contests of pro experience, both of wins, after registering just 11 wins over the course of a stop-start amateur career.
His pro debut came last October, at the Hangar, where he outpointed Kearon Thomas by a whitewash verdict, 40-36 the scoreline at the final bell.
He was back at the Hangar in December, seeing off Kevin McCauley through another points success, conceding just a share of a round to record a 40-37 result.
Round said: “I think you will see the best of me, I’ve trained harder than I ever have before and put an extra push on everything that I’ve done.
“Even just missing the one date (in February) has made me feel like this is redemption and I’ve realised how much boxing means to me. I’ve really knuckled down.
“This is the fittest I’ve been and I’m over the moon with how my camp has gone. I’ve got more hunger than ever to be a success in boxing.
“I haven’t got that much amateur experience so, when I turned pro, it was to have a go and see how I get on, but I’ll be after titles now, with the Midlands (belt) as a minimum.
“I won’t be holding anything back, I’ll give it 110 per cent and I’m starting to come out of my shell a bit now, because I’ve been sparring more than normal.
“I’m a come forward fighter, that’s what suits me and I’ll be wanting to get my opponent out of there. Maybe this time, with the shape that I’m in, it will happen.
“I want to be stepping it up, every time, and I’ve made some progress, so there’s something to build on and it’s important to keep on improving.”
Tickets for the Hangar bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, from the BCB Box Office by calling 07493 582 261 or visiting myfighttickets.com.
