Amanda Serrano aims to surpass Christy Martin’s KO record
Rightly considered one of the most feared punchers in the history of women’s boxing, Amanda Serrano, from Carolina in Puerto Rico, is ambitious to break the record for knockout victories currently held by former champion Hall of Famer Christy Martin, who has 32 wins via stoppage.
Serrano has registered 40 victories, of which 30 have been by KO.
“I like to fight going forward. I have the heart of a Puerto Rican warrior who wants to end the fights early so, that the message is more emphatically forceful,” Serrano said.
“I never imagined being close to Christy Martin in knockout victories. It was something I did not have in mind and now, with God in front of me, I will work very hard to put Puerto Rico back in the Guinness Book when I win. I think that by the end of 2022 we will achieve it.
“I like the war and my opponent also. Due to our styles, this fight will not go the distance. This Sunday, we will steal the show and more with the special touch of the sports rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico.”
This Sunday, August 29 in Cleveland, Serrano will defend his WBC and WBO featherweight world championships against the WBC super-bantamweight world champion, Mexican Yamileth Mercado, in a fight that will be broadcast live on SHOWTIME PPV, starting at 8 pm ET.
