Andrew Robinson vows to prove there’s a different ‘D’Animal’
Andrew Robinson vs. TBA
Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, England – 25 February 2022
Andrew Robinson has vowed to carry on proving there’s a different ‘D’Animal’ at work as he targets a trilogy with Damian Jonak.
First comes an appearance when BCB Promotions stage their first show at the Eastside Rooms, on Woodcock Street in Birmingham, with fight night set for Friday (February 25).
Robinson has unfinished business with Jonak, who he has twice travelled to Poland for a clash and he first outpointed him, before battling to an over-the-distance draw last time out.
Before the pandemic, the two first met in 2019, where Robinson pulled off a career-best victory when he beat Jonak, who was unbeaten in 42 pro bouts, on a split decision.
Fast forward two years later and the duo were back in the ring for a rematch, where Robinson and Jonak played out another stalemate, again over eight rounds.
Two of the three judges scored it a 76-76 draw, while the other had it 77-75 to Jonak, who had blood pouring from his nose from much of the contest.
Robinson is confident they will settle the score with a trio of meetings and expects a return to Poland for the privilege, so will undertake keep-busy action in Birmingham first.
It will be the 33rd bout of a storied pro career for the 37-year-old middleweight, from Redditch, who has 25 wins, five losses and two draws on his paid ledger.
The former Midlands champion has challenged for the British title and a host of international honours, along with claiming the IBO Continental bauble.
He said: “I normally have a five-week camp for a non-championship fight, eight to 10 weeks if it’s titles. I need to be boxing, at least, once every three months.
“I’m constantly in the gym, but that’s not the best if you haven’t got a date to look forward to, although I do enjoy all of the sparring and I’m feeling good.
“I’ve been hurting people and pushing lads around (in sparring) who are 10 years younger than me. You will see the difference, with the way I’m moving in the ring.
“I’m like a different Animal! I’ve always had a weird engine, with how I keep going, and a good chin, so it doesn’t matter how old I am, I’m a handful for anyone.
“I ticked a lot of boxes last time (the rematch with Jonak). It was nice to go out and show people that I’m not finished, the ones that thought I was only going over there for the money.
“I know that I beat Jonak again, you only had to look at his face. I broke his nose, with two lead uppercuts, and there was blood everywhere. He was spitting blood, at the end.
“I always doubt that I will get the decision, as the away fighter in another man’s backyard, but he certainly hasn’t shown anyone that he can beat me.
“I wasn’t surprised that it was a draw and I’m happy to do it all over again. He’s had two goes at me, what is he going to do differently a third time?”
Tickets for the Eastside Rooms bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
