BOXXER series Coventry: Lightweight tournament draw
“In terms of well-matched fights, this might be Saturday night’s best card,” this week’s edition of British pugilism bible Boxing News said of this weekend’s BOXXER Series Coventry: Lightweight Tournament.
The eight participants clearly agree, judging by the energy between them at today’s official draw to determine the quarter-final matches which will commence the one-night tournament live on Sky Sports this Saturday night.
On the line are significant purses and – perhaps equally as important – the chance to compete on the biggest television platform in British sports and put on performances which will open up new levels of future career opportunity.
From undefeated prospects fighting out of well-known stables through to dark horse newcomers with a reputation for one-punch stopping power, the balance between the BOXXER Series Coventry: Lightweight Tournament octuplet promises all-out action from start to finish.
Hosted by BOXXER executive Daniel Stewart, today’s draw produced some interesting quarter-final matches for this Saturday night, including an unexpected early showdown between stablemates Gibbs and Melvin and a must-win bout for Coventry’s own Cheema against heavy hitter Lookham.

Quarter-Final 2:
Tion Gibbs (8-0) vs. Scott Melvin
Quarter-Final 3:
Rylan Charlton (7-2-1) vs Joe Underwood Hughes (7-0)
Quarter-Final 4:
Shaun Cooper (12-3) vs Brooklyn Tilley (3-0)
The BOXXER Series Coventry: Lightweight Tournament takes place this Saturday, April 16 at Coventry Skydome and airs live and exclusively on Sky Sports from TIMEpm.
