Canelo’s Main Goal For 2021 is to Win all The Super Middleweight Titles
Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez’s main goal for 2021 is to win all the Super Middleweight division titles, as detailed by his trainer Eddy Reynoso in an interview for Fox Sports.
As his next fight against Turkey’s Avni Yildirim approaches, the Mexican’s team is focused on the February 27th opponent they will fight in Miami, but that does not prevent them from thinking about their plans for 2021.
“Canelo owns the World Boxing Association belt since last December, when he snatched it from Callum Smith and also got the vacant WBC belt. Now, the plan is to beat Yildirim in order to fight two champions in the next few months, according to Reynoso.
“Our idea is to defend on the 27th, we have the fight with Billy Joe Saunders for May 8th and then we will try to negotiate with Caleb Plant to unify the four titles. (Unifying an entire division) is one of the big projects we have always wanted to do,” said Reynoso.
However, the trainer is clear that Yildirim is a test and they must tackle it with great responsibility before thinking about other things.
“He’s a fierce fighter, I won’t say he’s on the level of Billy Joe Saunders and Callum Smith, but very often these no-name fighters turn out to be the toughest. We are taking things seriously as we always do. We want to unify the championships and we want to start that mission on February 27,” he closed.
