“Cheerful” Johansen Álvarez, Nephew of “Canelo” Debuts as a Pro in June
Super featherweight Johansen Álvarez, nephew of WBC super middleweight world champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, will make his professional debut in June, José Reynoso, the boxer’s coach, announced on Friday.
“He is a cheerful boxing boy, with subtle movement of the waist and a good counterattack; he also hits hard,” Reynoso said in an interview after the presentation of the 17-year-old who won 24 fights as an amateur.
Reynoso explained that the son of Gonzalo Álvarez, brother of ‘Canelo’, has prepared well and although he does not know his rival, he is psyched to have a good debut.
“He is disciplined and respectful of his profession; he learns day by day and we are optimistic,” he commented.
Johansen acknowledged that being the family of the best boxer of the moment is a responsibility, but he considers writing his own story without comparing himself to his uncle. “The surname weighs heavy, but I take it with responsibility.”
Although he outlines his style, based on technique and fine boxing but with a good punch, Johansen Álvarez assured that he was prepared to adapt to any type of rival and hopes to get ahead.
“I am very excited, motivated, I have worked much harder than I did in amateur boxing because professionalism is something greater.”
