Nathaniel Collins vs. Felix Williams

New Douglas Park in Hamilton, Scotland 31/7/21

(Vacant Commonwealth Featherweight Title)

Fightzone move their cameras North of the Border on Saturday July 31 with a cracking title fight show at New Douglas Park in Hamilton.

Top of the bill on the Kynoch Boxing and Fight Academy event will see Nathaniel Collins (pictured) venture into deep water when he faces Ghana’s very hard-hitting Felix Williams for the vacant Commonwealth Featherweight crown.

Collins – a pro since 2018 – is progressing well at 7-0, with two KOs, and his exciting performances have had manager Sam Kynoch convinced he has a new Scottish star on his hands. But has the 24-year-old Bearsden man been thrown in too early against Williams?

The far more experienced African has won 29 of 31 fights, with 22 KOs under his belt, and won’t be fazed by travelling to the UK. The 31-year-old was a visitor to Sheffield in 2019 when he gave former British champion Josh Wale a good fight, losing over 10 rounds but earning a draw on one of the judge’s scorecards.

Two other of Kynoch’s charges will also be in testing title fights against tough foreign opposition. Aberdeen’s Dean Sutherland will put his perfect 10-0 (2) ledger on the line against Mexico’s Jose Antonio Delgado Velazquez for the vacant World Boxing Organisation Youth Welterweight Title. Whilst compatriot Billy Stuart from MacDuff (managed by David McAllister) also gambles his flawless 10-0 (3) record against another Mexican, Alejandro Jair Gonzalez, for the vacant International Boxing Federation Youth Super Bantamweight Title.

Both of the Latin American visitors come to the UK with impressive stats – Velazquez has lost just once in 11 outings, while Gonzalez has just two defeats in 11 fights, and boasts six early finishes. Mexico has a proud history of producing tough, exciting champions and Kynoch is hoping that his fighters won’t suffer the same fate as former world featherweight champ Josh Warrington, Robbie Davies Jr, Tommy Frank and James Tennyson – four British fighters who have all been come unstuck against Mexican imports over recent months.

“This is Scotland’s first boxing show since lockdown, so I’m really excited to be putting it on, and in such a great outdoor venue too. It’s a big show with three titles on and it’s on Fightzone too, which is massive. Having Fightzone onboard takes things to a new level, I’ve been to some of their shows and they’ve been brilliant. I know this show will transfer really well on the platform; it’ll be first class for the viewers.

“On paper and in reality, having watched [Felix] Williams, this is a hard fight for Nathaniel. It’s a massive step up but exactly what he wanted. We’ve done the deal with Fight Academy and what he was after has been delivered. He’s ready for this even though he’s only had the seven pro fights. As an amateur he went to the Commonwealth Games and boxed internationally, so his pro record is a bit deceiving. This fight is way over and above the levels he’s been operating at, but he’s more than ready for the challenge. He’s buzzing, is a consummate professional, and will show that he more than belongs at this level.

“The Mexicans are also both live opponents, quite risky, but Dean and Billy are ready to go. We know from recent history that if you’re not on it against these Mexican imports they’ll have you out. Questions will be asked over the 10 rounds, and these contests will be great spectacles for the fans and the Fightzone viewers. These Latin opponents aren’t going to lie down and we’ll get to find out what Billy and Dean are all about.”

Kynoch Boxing, in association with Fight Academy, present an evening of boxing at New Douglas Park in Hamilton on Saturday July 31. Topping the bill will be Bearsden’s Nathaniel Collins versus Ghana’s Felix Williams for the vacant Commonwealth Featherweight crown.

Chief support sees Aberdeen’s Dean Sutherland and Mexico’s Jose Antonio Delgado Velazquez contest the vacant World Boxing Organisation Youth Welterweight Title, and Macduff’s Billy Stuart against Mexican, Alejandro Jair Gonzalez, for the vacant International Boxing Federation Youth Super Bantamweight Title.

Also on the card are David Jamieson (East Kilbride), Kevin Duris (Hamilton), Jordan Grant (Hamilton), Ben McGivern (Coatbridge), Gary Ducie (Glasgow), Corey McCulloch (Arbroath) and Hannah Baggaley (Blackpool).
