Italian Dario “Spartan” Morello won the vacant Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) International Middleweight title on Saturday night, July 2, at the Centre Sportivo in Carugate, Milan.

Morello was in with a game opponent in Dutch co-challenger Melvin Wassing, but was effective with his hooks and uppercuts in a fight where both men looked determined and willing to trade.

In round five the ringside doctor decided that a bleeding Wassing should not be allowed to continue due to a broken nose, making Morello the winner and new champion by technical knockout. Official time of stoppage: 2:50.

A former Italian national and WBO Global champion at Welterweight, Morello (29) improved his impressive professional record to 19-1 (3). Wassing (30), coming off two victories, falls to 11-11-4 (3).

The fight was the main event of an outdoors show promoted by Taverniti Promotion.
