David ‘Red Flag’ Benavidez vs. Ronald Ellis This Saturday in Uncasville
Two-time WBC super middleweight world champion, David ‘Red Flag’ Benavidez, fights Ronald Ellis, in a World Boxing Council elimination match on Saturday, at the “Mohegan Sun Arena” in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The last time Benavidez (23-0, 20 KOs) stepped into the ring was on August 15, when he defeated Colombian Roamer Alexis Angulo by knockout, in a duel where he lost his title on the scale.
Benavidez, of Phoenix, Arizona, turned pro at 16 and captured his first world title at 20, becoming the youngest 168-pound world champion in history.
Now Benavidez is looking to earn another super middleweight title shot.
Ronald Ellis (18-1-2, 12 KOs), who has lost only once in his career, a 10-round majority decision to DeAndre Ware (13-3-2, 8 KOs) in 2019, will come into the fight after defeating Matt Korobov (28-4-1, 14 KOs), by technical knockout, last December.
Ellis, 31, has been calling for the biggest fights at 160 and 168 pounds, and has landed the toughest challenge of his professional career against Benavidez. Ellis just won a victory over three-time world title challenger Matt Korobov, who was forced to retire due to injury during their December fight.
