Demetrius Andrade Defeats Liam Williams
Liam Williams put in an extremely brave performance but came up short as he challenged Demetrius Andrade for his WBO middleweight title.
The two men were competing on a Matchroom Boxing event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, broadcast live on DAZN.
It became a tough ask for Williams (23-3-1, 18 KOs) very early into the fight, as Andrade (30-0, 18 KOs) dropped the Welshman in round two.
Williams showed incredible heart and determination though, getting up off the canvas and battling hard to make it through the entire fight, winning several rounds along the way.
In the end the judges scored it 116-111, 118-109, 118-109 in favour of Andrade, but Williams showed that he can come again after his bravery.
Williams said: “Andrade is a very good fighter. He’s better than I thought to be honest. He’s very slippery and I couldn’t really get going. I hurt him a couple of times but then he was gone before I knew it.”
Andrade said: “Liam Williams is a hell of a fighter. He’s tough, strong and gave me a hell of a fight. He got up and kept coming. That’s what happens in a dogfight.”
