Dennis McCann & Sam Maxwell Shine in London
There were big wins for Dennis McCann and Sam Maxwell as they each put in great performances on Friday.
The pair were fighting on a Queensberry Promotions show that was broadcast live on BT Sport and took place at the Copper Box Arena in London.
McCann (9-0, 5 KOs) was stepping up in competition against Luis Moreno (9-2, 6 KOs), but was still able to produce a dominant performance.
He dropped Moreno in the final round, before earning a one-sided points victory on Howard Foster’s scorecard, who scored it 80-71 in McCann’s favour.
McCann said: “He has a good record and some big knockouts. I’m only 20-year-old and it was good to get the rounds in and improve. I’m learning every time.
“I dominated every single round. I thought I boxed very well and hurt him a few times in there. Just keep lining them up and I’ll keep knocking them down. I’d fight for a world title tomorrow if I could!”
Maxwell (15-0, 11 KOs) also produced an impressive performance, winning nearly every round to earn a 79-73 points victory over Ben Fields.
It was Maxwell’s first fight since teaming up with new trainer Steve Maylett, with the Liverpool fighter putting in a slick display.
Sam Gilley (11-1, 5 KOs) was also in action, coming up agonisingly short, as he suffered a points loss to Danny Ball (10-0-1, 4 KOs) for the WBC International Silver welterweight title.
It was an extremely competitive fight between the two men, but in the end the judges awarded Ball a close points win, as they scored it 96-94, 97-94, 96-94.
