DJ Dr. Darrius adds expert musical touch to Detroit Brawl Events
After decades of pumping up Motown over the airwaves, Detroit’s award-winning DJ Dr. Darrius has proven himself more than up to the job of adding high-energy musical flavor to Salita Promotions’ Detroit Brawl boxing series between rounds and fights.
Darrius, who will be spinning once again at Salita Promotion’s next Detroit Brawl event, on Saturday April 2, 2022, in the Lincoln Ballroom of the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI., says he’s proud to be part of the sport’s surprising resurgence in the city.
“Detroit Brawl is rekindling the city’s love for the sport of boxing and its rich history,” said Darrius. “Detroit was the capital of music with Motown records and boxing with all its champions and the Kronk boxing gym. I believe that (event promoter Dmitriy Salita) Dmitriy and his Detroit Brawl series are bringing back the glory days to Detroit boxing.”
A radio veteran since age 14, Darrius eventually worked his way up to an on-air talent on popular hip-hop and R&B station, FM 98 WJLB, where, in addition to regularly interviewing some of the biggest names in music, he has used his platform to become a beloved champion of the city.
Darrius was awarded the coveted Spirit of Detroit award in 2021.
“The fights are exceptional and, with me at the turntable, the soundtrack makes it a unique, entertaining one-of-a-kind experience,” he continued.
Salita, who set out to revive Detroit boxing in 2016, has seen his Detroit Brawl series ignite, with sold-out shows monthly, featuring many of the city’s best and brightest young prospects and established contenders.
The night’s eight-round main event features the return of one of Detroit’s own, as undefeated power-punching lightweight contender Erick De Leon (19-0-1, 11 KOs) will take on hard-nosed Mexico City veteran Juan Jose “Piquet” Martinez (28-11, 20 KOs).
In the main supporting bouts will be WBC #9, IBF #15, WBO #14 light heavyweight Ali Izmailov (7-0, 5 KOs) will face Iquique, Chile’s Abraham Tebes (7-0, 3 KOs) in an exciting 10-round battle of undefeated 175-lb sluggers, plus undefeated former amateur star and professional middleweight Timur Kerefov (12-0, 6 KOs) taking a challenging assignment against well-respected trialhorse Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis (21-9-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-round showdown, as well as undefeated Grand Rapids, Michigan-based former amateur lightweight star Joshua “Double J” Pagan (1-0, 1 KO) facing pro debuting Virginian Jude Hammad in a four-round special attraction.
Also scheduled for action is current WBC USNBC Silver Heavyweight Champion Brandon Moore (11-0, 7 KOs) in an eight-round heavyweight showdown against Curtis Harper (13-7, 9 KOs) and Las Vegas via Nahariya, Israel, super flyweight David Alaverdian (5-0, 4 KOs) making his United States fighting debut in a six-round showcase bout against Kecskemet, Hungary’s Jeno Tonte (9-9, 8 KOs).
“Detroit is one of the cultural capitals in the US,” said Salita. “We want to give boxing fans a unique , memorable experience with quality matchups and world-class entertainment, which is linked to Americas greatest comeback city: Detroit.”
