England Boxing coaching courses back with a bang at Tamworth
England Boxing qualification courses are back with a bang at Tamworth Boxing Club in the West Midlands.
Following the lifting of Coronavirus restrictions, the resumption of courses were given the go-ahead from Saturday 24th July and the Midlands Coach Education Team wasted no time in getting things going again.
England Boxing Coach Educator Alan Keast delivered the first Level 1 coaching courses to return at the Corner-post Education Centre and said: “Once we were given the all clear to return to face-to-face courses, we got our heads together and started planning dates immediately.
“Along with the England Boxing Coach Admin team in Sheffield we set about offering out as many course places as possible, as some clubs have been waiting since the first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020 to attend courses.
“As we have two floors available for use within our building, we were able to offer two level 1 Courses running simultaneously on each floor, with both courses having now been completed and a total of 31 new Level 1 England Boxing Coaches having successfully completed qualifications.”
There are another two Level 1 Courses due for completion by 15th August and an England Boxing safeguarding course was also delivered last weekend, with 18 coaches either renewing previous or completing new qualifications.
Keast has been delivering one course and England Boxing Club Support Officer, Mick Maguire, the other.
Maguire said: “We are extremely fortunate to have such a fantastic facility as the Tamworth Boxing Club’s building available to us in the West Midlands and Alan and his team work wonders in ensuring that all the clubs in the West Midlands have the maximum possible opportunities to access courses.”
There are several more Level 1 and Level 2 coaching courses taking place soon in Tamworth.
A level 1 coaching qualification should be taken by anyone who wishes to be involved in coaching competitive amateur boxing within an England Boxing-affiliated club.
A level 1 coaching qualification enables coaches to assist a Level 2 qualified coach within an England Boxing affiliated club.
Delegates must be the age of 17 to take a level 1 coaching course. Please note: coaches must be 18 to register with England Boxing.
Level one coaching courses being rearranged after Covid-19 delay
All people who have booked on a Level 1 course will receive email notification of this within the next seven days, with dates of when their course has been moved to. It is anticipated that courses will be put back by around three weeks.
If a course attendee cannot make the rescheduled date, they will be given the option to re-book on another course.
When courses have been rearranged, which are expected to be from the weekend of 24th and 24th July onwards, then any spare places will be advertised on this web page.
New courses will then be added regularly across the England Boxing regions.

Level 2 Progression Workshops (Online)
England Boxing is now offering Level 2 Progression Workshops, which have been set up during the Coronavirus Pandemic for fully registered England Boxing Level 2 coaches who are keen to take the next step.
The online workshops are a good way of evidencing the kind of continuous professional development (CPD) that is needed to be selected to take part in the England Boxing Level 3 coaching course, as well as helping to add to a Level 2 coach’s existing skillset.
Workshops on three key areas are currently available:
- Club Coach Leader
- Competition Lead Coach
- Integration and Applied Sport Science.
For more details on the courses, click here. To register for a workshop you must be a current Level 2 boxing coach. Dates are outlined at the bottom of this page. The cost to attend each workshop is £20 (20 participants max per workshop).
You can register and secure your place by clicking here, or by clicking on the ‘book a course here’ link at the bottom of the page.
There is no pass/fail criteria for these workshops, although you must be engaged and willing to contribute to demonstrate your understanding.
Proposed coaching courses restart
England Boxing hopes to restart face-to-face coaching courses from early June, subject to the easing of lockdown continuing as per the government roadmap.
Coaching courses are restarting later than safeguarding courses because the practical, contact elements in these courses (which safeguarding does not have) are currently not permitted under Covid-19 legislation among adult groups.
Details of dates are expected to be released on the website and advertised on social media at the end of April, but will remain subject to government go-ahead.

What happens if a coach fails a England Boxing Level 2 Course… does this count towards the Level 1 Refresher?
If a coach does not pass the England Boxing Level 2 course, they will be able to use this as credit to act as an alternative to the England Boxing Level 1 Refresher course. However, there are conditions to this:
During the Level 2 Course, the coach needs to demonstrate (which relates to the current Level 1 Refresher):
- Understand the role of the coach
- Conduct safe activities
- Evaluate activities and own coaching practice
If the Coach Educator identifies or observes aspects relating to safety, professional attitude or safeguarding that they are not satisfied with, the coach candidate will have to attend the England Boxing Level 1 Refresher. Should you need to take the England Boxing Level 1 Refresher, you will be notified.
