Riviera International Centre, Torquay, Devon, England – 2 September 2022

A new champion is to be decided when BCB Promotions stage their first show at the Riviera International Centre, with fight night set for Friday September 2.

It’s a golden opportunity for Devon’s own Krissy Shergold, who was born in Paignton but lives in Exeter, as she goes for glory at the age of 41.

Shergold’s pro career started way back in 2008 and she’s previously been a world title challenger, completing 10 rounds for the lesser-known GBC (Global Boxing Council) crown.

Her paid record currently stands at seven victories and six defeats, from 13 outings, and she’s been on a three-fight winning streak, with one TKO also on her slate.

Currently standing in her way is the unbeaten Vicky Wilkinson, from Wombourne in South Staffordshire, who is less than 12 months into her pro journey.

The 39-year-old was a national champion twice at amateur level, though, with a duo of honours in the England Development Championships, representing Darlaston Boxing Club.

Wilkinson has made an impressive start to her pro run, too, with points successes over Beccy Ferguson, Bojana Libiszewska and, most notably, the undefeated Lianne Bush.

A host of Devon-based fighters fill out the undercard, with three debutants among them, along with a couple of road warriors making rare home appearances.

Christi Brereton is to switch combat sports and undertake the sweet science, having been successful in her former callings of kickboxing and Muay Thai boxing.

The 29-year-old lightweight, from Okehampton in Devon, became a pro kickboxer at the age of just 14 and claimed two world titles in the Muay Thai discipline.

Shannon Willey has hit the road to get his pro career started, appearing on BCB shows in the West Midlands since his debut in February.

The 28-year-old welterweight lives in Exeter, but spends his training time in Torquay, with coach Gareth Hogg, at the Elite Community Gym.

He has already climbed to 2-0, outpointing Naeem Ali and MJ Hall, and has 44 bouts (19 wins) of amateur seasoning, with Exeter Boxing Club and later Lympstone BC.

James Drummond was another to debut on a BCB offering away from home, but now finds himself needing to bounce back from a first pro defeat.

Turning over at the age of 34, on June 26 in Birmingham, Drummond was caught cold by Ben Thomas, in the very first round, and was subsequently stopped.

The super middleweight, from Exeter, is undeterred, though, and hopes to learn from a setback sustained while he’s still relatively low on experience.

Despite being a late comer to the pro game, Drummond only clocked up 16 amateur fights, spent with Exmouth Boxing Club and then Hard Knocks in his home city.

Further debuts will come the way of middleweight Sam Smith, of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, and Taunton’s Mertys Rowen, who joins the super lightweight division.

The home corner is a rarity for Plymouth duo Chris Adaway and Des Newton who collectively, are into three figures for pro boxing assignments completed between them.

Tickets for ‘Rumble on the Riviera’ are available now, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
