Jackie Nava: I Want to Say Goodbye to Boxing as a Champion | Boxen247.com

Legendary fighter Jackie Nava, connected with a combination of boxing press, to discuss the overwhelming victory that she had last Saturday against intrepid Karina Fernández.

Jackie said she expected a tough fight and Karina was a dangerous rival at all times. However, she did her job and focused on the work done in the gym to gain victory.

For Jackie it was important to show that she is still in top physical and mental condition. She has decided that she will retire during this year, after a glorious career of two decades…but yes, she wants do it by winning the Green and Gold Belt.

Jackie Nava, who was the first ever woman WBC world champion in 2005, knows that facing the current super bantamweight champion, Yamileth Mercado, is an exacting and historic challenge.

She assured that, if this fight occurs, she is willing to accept Yamileth’s conditions because she is the owner of the belt, and Jackie herself is the challenger, a statement that undoubtedly demonstrates humility, respect and sheer greatness.

Accordingly, Yamileth Mercado only had words of praise for Jackie, saying  that she was her source of inspiration to become a boxer and that  it would not only be a dream come true, but an honor to face a legend in women’s boxing.

Showing sincere recognition of each other’s careers, both fighters agreed and confirmed that neither of them has a problem with the venue of the fight, since they know that fights are won in the ring.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman says this would be a historic event that deserves to be showcased and highlighted at the very top, even on an international stage. Although he also said that it is a fight that represents the very best of Mexico and to be held for an audience in Mexico would be the ideal. So he left this difficult decision to the promoters.

However, in what was clear is that both are the pride of the WBC, two worthy representatives of boxing who always give their supreme best and both have build a great path for future boxers.

Yamileth announced that it is possible that she will defend her crown in June, which would elevate the expectations to have the megafight against Jackie in September or October.
