It’s taken four fight dates for James Scarrott to step through the ropes with an opponent he should have had on his pro debut.

A third paid outing comes when BCB Promotions’ next offering at the H Suite arrives in Edgbaston, Birmingham, with a Friday fight night set for September 23.

Scarrott was due to be in action two weeks previously, in Northampton, but the show was called off by the British Boxing Board of Control, as a mark of respect due to the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

He’s again been paired with left-hander MJ Hall, who was the first match for both of his previous pro contests, before withdrawing for other opportunities, and they were also due to clash in Northampton.

Scarrott instead tackled Dean Wilkinson on his June debut, before returning to beat Paul Scaife in July. Both were four-round points whitewashes, scored 40-36.

The teenage welterweight turned over at the age of 18, the youngest age at which a pro licence can be obtained, and is already engaged to fiance Milly. He doesn’t turn 19 until December 22.

Scarrott also has 30 bouts of amateur experience, representing hometown outfit Worcester City Boxing Club, who he last featured for in 2021.

His unpaid career saw him rack 30 bouts, 18 of them wins, and saw him earn area honours claimed in the England Schools, Junior (twice) and Youth Championships.

He said: “I’ve pretty much carried on from my last training camp, I was back in the gym on the Monday after the fight. It’s been mainly about keeping my fitness up.

“I’m feeling good and I want to build on what I’ve already done. Both of my performances have been decent, with all rounds won, so I can’t complain.

“They felt like the same sort of opponents, I couldn’t really tell them apart. My game is to catch them out and counter punch, so that’s worked well.

“I’m boxing a southpaw, this time, and I haven’t come across many of them, so it could be a bit of a test. I was supposed to have MJ Hall a few times before, so I’m hoping it happens this time.

“I’ve seen him around at the BCB shows before and had a chat with him, so it’s nothing personal and I respect that he’s a very experienced fighter.

“This is my third one in just over three months, so I’ll prob have a couple of months off after and, hopefully, get another one before the end of the year.

“I’ve mentioned maybe having a six-rounder, after this, and I think I’d be better over a longer distance, because it can take me a while to warm up sometimes.

“Every sparring session that I have is, at least, six rounds and I’ve been doing a lot with Macauley Owen (fellow undefeated pro), as he’s a southpaw and a good prospect.”

Tickets for the H Suite bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
