Jermell Charlo vs. Brian Castaño
AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas 17/7/21
The bout between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño will define the best Super Welterweight fighter in the world. The American is the owner of the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Championship at 154 pounds and will face the Argentine in a bout that will also have the WBO, WBC, and IBF belts at stake.
Charlo holds the WBA, WBC, and IBF belts, while the WBO belt is in the hands of Castaño. On Saturday night, the four belts will have only one owner and everything will be defined at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Charlo is 31 years old and comes from defeating Jeison Rosario in September last year with a knockout in the eighth round. If there is something the pioneer body’s champion has shown, is talent and an ability to recover from adverse situations.
In 2018 he suffered a loss to Tony Harrison and lost his undefeated record in an unexpected way. But since then he has worked hard and after a few fights he was able to beat Harrison in a rematch, become World Champion again and now be close to owning all the belts.
Castaño is undefeated and beat Patrick Teixeira in his most recent fight. The South American is 31 years old and is facing the opportunity of a lifetime, which he will not miss.
He is a tough fighter who gets into the ring with a lot of motivation. Argentine boxing is expectant of a victory for Castaño, which could be historic for boxing in South America.
Promotional activities for the event will take place this week and the weigh-in ceremony will be held on Friday. Charlo has 34 wins, 1 loss, and 18 KOs, while Castaño comes into the fight with 17 wins, 1 draw, and 12 KOs.
