Joseph “Jo Jo” Díaz Jr. faces Javier “Abejón” Fortuna this Friday in LA
Joseph Díaz Jr. vs. Javier Fortuna
Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA – 9/7/21
Former world champion Joseph “Jo Jo” Díaz Jr. (31-1-1, 15 KOs), will face former world champion Javier “Abejón” Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) in a lightweight bout, on July 9 at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
Javier Fortuna was originally scheduled to face WBC Interim Lightweight Champion Ryan Garcia, but the fight was called off when Garcia was reported to have mental health issues.
“I am happy that JoJo Díaz has accepted the challenge to face me. I give Joseph a lot of credit for having the courage.
“It will be the fight of my life, a great battle, because Jo Jo Díaz has an aggressive style and he is the type of fighter I like to face.”
“I am determined to win this fight for the pride of my Dominican Republic and my followers throughout Latin America,”
Díaz commented: “I am excited and ready to go out and redeem myself with all my fans. I am extremely focused.
“I really need to go out there and show everyone that I am an elite fighter. I know a lot of people avoid Javier Fortuna and nobody wants to fight him because he’s dangerous and tough, a bit of an awkward fighter and a powerful fighter at 135 pounds.
“I have all the tools and I have the power at 135 to go out there and defeat this guy, and I feel like this opportunity that God created for me to go out and win the title and seek the top of boxing once again.”
The fight promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and will be broadcast on DAZN.
