Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall exchange heated words at press conference
Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall
SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland – 26 February 2022
Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall certainly pulled no punched as they spoke in front of the media head of this weekend’s undisputed title showdown.
Unbeaten fighters collide as Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) defends his WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF super-lightweight titles against Catterall (26-0, 13 KOs) at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
The final press conference took place on Thursday, and both Taylor and Catterall let each other know what they can expect to see on fight night.
Taylor said: “I’m delighted to be back home. The last two years has been frustrating for everybody. I boxed twice, once behind closed doors and once in Vegas with a limited crowd. I’m coming back home and seeing the fans again at a sold out arena, so I can’t wait for Saturday.
“I’ve had a long journey of success here and it’s going to continue on Saturday. Jack is trying to take away what I’ve worked hard to get. I did it the hard way, and now he’s got a shot at the jackpot in one night, so I’ll put him in his place.
“I’m not thinking about anybody else other than Jack, but he’s in for a long, painful beatdown on Saturday. It’s about levels and we’ll see that.
“I definitely feel Jack is going to walk onto some big shots, and I think I can get the knockout. I don’t see a way that he can beat me in this fight. I don’t know how he’ll do it, but I’m prepared for whatever he brings.”
Catterall said: “It’s a challenge that I’m relishing. I feel the fight week buzz now. I got a good reception at the public workout and I’m excited to get stuck in on Saturday.
“It’s been a long journey to get to this point. I’ve been mandatory for two years with a lot of roadblocks in the way, but I can put that behind me now. We’re two days away from the fight and I’m excited to get in there.
“I congratulated Josh when he became undisputed last year, and I wanted him to win the fight. I’m not coming here to make up the numbers, I’ve been in the gym working continuously for this opportunity.
“The respect is there, but me and Josh both know when the bell goes on Saturday that we’re going to punch each other’s heads in.”
Two MTK Global fighters are also in action on the undercard, as Mark McKeown takes on Laszlo Szoke, and Bilal Fawaz meets Malam Varela. McKeown was present at the undercard press conference, and he is excited to compete on a big stage.
McKeown said: “It’s great to have a fight up in Glasgow. I don’t need to tell people what the atmosphere is like up here, it will be electric.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity and I will grab it with both hands and showcase my talent. At the start of my career I would always go to the big Ricky Burns fights throughout his career up here in Glasgow, now it’s great to be here on these big shows myself.”
