Josh Taylor has reflected on the incredible whirlwind that he has been through over the past fortnight – after making history and becoming undisputed super-lightweight champion.

Taylor defeated Jose Ramirez by in Las Vegas on May 22, dropping his opponent twice on his way to winning a unanimous decision and securing the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO titles in the process.

The ‘Tartan Tornado’ received a fantastic reception from his proud fans as he touched down back in Scotland two weeks ago, and he has now looked back on how life has been since the battle.

Taylor told ESPN: “It’s just been pure elation and joy. I’ve been on top of the world and I still am. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. There have been a few celebrations since I’ve been back and the last few days has been the first time where I’ve sat back and reflected on what I’ve achieved.

“I’m proud of myself and I’m the happiest man alive. I trained since I was 14 for this moment. I’ve always been driven towards becoming world champion and being the best I can be, so I’m on cloud nine. What I’ve achieved is a big part of history.

“I watched the fight back for the first time recently, and I scored it 116-111 to myself. I could have possibly scored it 117-111, but I was being generous to Ramirez. I lost three, maybe for rounds tops. I felt really comfortable in that fight.

“I could have even put my foot on the gas and got him out there, but I didn’t want to take a big risk. I hurt both my hands in there and they’re still swollen now. They started hurting in around the sixth or seventh round, and then in round eight I really hurt my left hand.

“I outboxed Ramirez and moved around the ring well. I feel I was on control for the whole fight. He wasn’t really hitting me, I was blocking and making him miss. We used his aggression against him. I don’t think Kenny Bayless did me any favours. He gave Ramirez two very long counts.

“These next few fights are where I’d now like to make a lot of money and make me and my family financially secure for the rest of my life. To be the best you have to beat the best, and that’s the attitude I’ve always had.”
