Lindolfo Delgado vs. Salvador Briceno
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, USA 19/6/21
Lindolfo Delgado marked his first fight in nearly two years with a dominant victory, as he defeated Salvador Briceno by unanimous decision on Saturday.
The two men were squaring off at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, with Delgado (12-0, 11 KOs) in complete control throughout the fight.
Delgado’s knockout streak came to an end, but he was able to secure some rounds in the bank, with the judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 after eight solid rounds to hand him the points win over Briceno (12-0, 11 KOs).
Elsewhere on Saturday, Ibeth Zamora suffered an extremely controversial points defeat, as she lost her WBC flyweight title to Marlen Esparza.
Zamora (32-7, 12 KOs) got off to a superb start, dropping Esparza (10-1, 1 KO) in the first round. The defending champion had plenty of success as the fight went on, with the two women treating the fans to a great fight at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
It looked like Zamora had done more than enough to retain her title, but the judges handed Esparza a unanimous decision win, controversially scoring it 97-92, 95-94, 96-94, despite most people watching having Zamora winning.
It was a very contentious decision from the judges, with lots of calls for a rematch between the two women after the surprising result.
