Lubin & Gausha Make Weight (Abreu Fails Twice) & Quotes
Erickson Lubin (22-1, 16 KO’s) 153.75 vs Terrell Gausha (21-1-1, 10 KO’s) 153
(WBC Super Welterweight Title Eliminator)
Tugstsogt Nyambayar (11-1, 9 KO’s) 125.5 vs Cobia Breedy (15-0, 5 KO’s) 125.5
Jaron Ennis (25-0, 23 KO’s) 146 vs Juan Carlos Abreu (23-5-1, 21 KO’s, 1 NC) 150.25
Weigh-In Notes: Abreu failed to make the contracted weight of 147 lbs and also failed to make the second attempt two hours later. The two camps agreed to make the limit of 151 lbs to enable the fight to continue.
“I’m not going to allow the fight to go the distance,” Abreu insisted during a recent Zoom media conference call “I’m gonna take him into my territory and this fight will end in knockout. Either he knocks me out or I will knock him out.”
“He’s a very good fighter, like all up and coming prospects,” Abreu added, “I personally feel that they put him over his head for this fight. He’s not prepared for a fighter like me. This will be his first real fight. I’m going to put in my work like I always do. I will take him into the deep rounds, bring him into my territory taking the fight into rounds sixth through ten.
“If it gets too ugly where I’m behind on points, I’m just gonna go for it. At that point, if he knocks me out, he knocks me out. If not, I’m knocking him out.”
“What I really want is for someone to get knocked out,” Abreu added. “I don’t care if I get knocked out, or if I knock him out. If he stands and fights, then he’s giving me a better chance of knocking him out. To lose is nothing new. Maybe it’s even better if we knock each other out in the same round.”
