Magsayo Defeats Hermosillo & Fight Card Results From Los Angeles

Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo (21-0, 14 KO’s) W PTS 10 (Split) Rigoberto Hermosillo (11-3-1, 8 KO’s)

Fight Notes: Scores were 100-90 & 96-94 for Magsayo and 96-94 Hermosillo making it a split decision win for Magsayo. Magsayo remains unbeaten and was the first fight under trainer Freddie Roach. The general feeling was that Hermosillo outworked Magsayo but two judges preferred Magsayo’s heavier shots and the decision was disputed. The bout was made at featherweight.

“I’m very happy to get this victory,” said Magsayo, “Freddie got me in great shape for this fight and I’m happy working with him. I faced a tough fighter tonight, but I know I’m ready to beat anyone in the division.”

“Magsayo is one of the best punchers in our gym,” Roach said. “He wasn’t letting his hands go enough tonight. We just need him to keep throwing more combinations, but he did enough to win the fight tonight and we’re grateful for that.”
