Maikol Beaumont dominated Edixon Perez by split decision on Saturday and retained the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedebol super bantamweight belt at the Centro Recreacional Yesterday, in Turmero, Venezuela.

The judges’ scorecards were 87-84, 83-88 and 86-85, evidenced a disputed bout that leaned in favor of Beaumont and that allowed him to retain the regional crown of the pioneer organization for the first time after the nine rounds.

it was the featured fight of the event and gave the 31-year-old fighter the opportunity to stay on the winning track and aim for better opportunities at the world level.

A native of the town of Cagua, Beaumont is a stylist who won the belt last August 7 by defeating the previously undefeated Yerny Betancourt. An important victory for the Venezuelan, who had previously lost to Colombian Jose Sanmartin in December 2019 and needed the victory. Now, with his first defense, he makes it clear that he had gotten the course and closes his year in a good way.

It was Beaumont’s 17th victory, with 4 losses, 1 draw and 7 knockouts, while Perez dropped his record to 24 wins, 7 losses and 18 defeats by stoppage.
