Middleweight Legend Marvin Hagler Dies – Dead at Age 66 R.I.P
So sad to report the death of middleweight boxing legend “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler. On Saturday, he was taken to hospital after experiencing breathing problems and chest pains. He later died.
Hagler turned professional on 18/5/75 with his last professional bout on 6/4/87, losing a 15 round split decision to fellow all time great “Sugar” Ray Leonard. He retired after this fight with a final record of 62-3-2 (52 KOs).
He was a career middleweight winning the world championship from Alan Minter in Wembley on 27/9/80. Beating Minter earned him both the WBC and WBA titles. He made 12 championship defences.
He will go down in history as one of the best middleweights in boxing history, if not the best, with names like Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, John Mugabi and many other top fighters on his victory list.
Kay G. Hagler (Hagler’s Wife): “I am sorry to make a very sad announcement,” she wrote. “Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire. Our family requests that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
Rest in peace champ.
