Moneo vs. Alaniz This Saturday for the WBA-Fedelatin Lightweight Title
Uruguay’s Maira Moneo and Argentina’s Estefanía Karen Alaniz will step into the ring this Saturday to fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin Lightweight title.
The bout will take place at the Complejo Multifunción, in Santa Fe, Argentina, and will have two warriors in the first major commitment of their careers.
A victory will be very important for both fighters, since the winner will put herself in the top of the continent and at the threshold of better opportunities in a demanding division where the Irish Katie Taylor reigns supreme.
“La Panterita” Moneo, 28, comes from the only loss of her career so far due to a disqualification, while Alaniz, 27, also comes from a tough fight against Yamila Abellaneda.
The two fighters have already fought each other a couple of times in 2019 and both fights ended with Moneo winning by unanimous decision. However, the inclusion of the regional belt and the fact that two years have passed add interesting ingredients to this third bout.
This Friday they will step on the scales, where they are required to weigh no more than 135 pounds to fight for the belt, and on Saturday they will be ready for the fight. Moneo has a record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1 KO, while Alaniz has a record of 5 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw, and 1 KO.
