Mykey-Lee Broughton vs. TBA

H Suite in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England – 10 July 2022

Fight fans should expect to see a new Mykey-Lee Broughton at work when he undertakes the sequel to his pro debut.

That will come when he’s a part of BCB Promotions’ next offering at the H Suite in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on the Sunday afternoon of July 10.

A change in coach has occurred since his pro bow last October, with fellow Brummie Anthony Manning replacing Asgar Tair in the corner.

Top-class sparring has made up for nine months out of action, with Broughton doing the rounds against world and domestic contenders.

IBF International boss Florian Marku, multi-time champion Ohara Davies and world title challenger Jack Catterall have all shared a training ring with him.

This has left Broughton feeling revitalised and ready to press forward with his efforts, in the lightweight division, where he already has one pro win.

He rolled over Jamie Quinn over four rounds, at Rollerworld in Derby, and had his hand raised, through a 40-36 points whitewash scoreline.

Broughton turned pro at 19, but his debut was delayed, due to the pandemic, and there will be many happy returns if he can land a second victory, in more ways than one.

The 20-year-old, who is from Acocks Green, turns 21 the day after the contest (June 11) and is long removed from his first amateur bout, at the age of 14.

He represented Birmingham City Boxing Club and O’Dells, as an amateur, with his record standing at 30 victories from 33 outings, before deciding to punch for pay.

Broughton said: “I’ve been boxing for a few years now, I had a decent amateur career and now I’m looking to build up my experience in the pro game. Training has gone great.

“It was a dominating performance, on my debut, but I was still getting used to the pro style. I’ve had four cancellations (of fight dates), since then, so it’s been hard to get out.

“Since I’ve come to Anthony (Manning, coach) in January, we’ve been all around the country sparring. You can’t get much better than the lads I’ve been in with.

“I’ve done six rounds with Florian Marku and Ohara Davies, also eight with Jack Catterall, and there are levels to them that have brought me on. I gave a good account of myself.

“Marku is so come forward and strong, Davies is such a good operator and Catterall can change his pace and approach, in any round.

“I feel 100 per cent different, as a fighter, even compared to when I made my debut. I’ve added a few things to my game and I’m just getting better and better.

“I’m looking to make a statement, the next time I go out there, and show the things I’ve learned and that we’ve been working on.

“The people who watched my debut will see how far I’ve come. I’m buzzing to be back boxing in Birmingham and I want to make up for lost time.

“It’s going to be a great night and I plan to enjoy my birthday after. Not too much, though, as I’ll probably be back in the gym straight after!”

Tickets for the H Suite bill are available, priced at £40 standard or £75 VIP ringside with buffet, directly from the boxers or by visiting myfighttickets.com.
