New Opponent For Dave Allen on Halloween | boxen247.com

Is it ‘trick or treat’ for Dave Allen?

19 wins, no defeats and all wins by KO!

Is October 31st going to be chilling for Allen as his third choice opponent appears to be a heavyweight powerhouse. Or is this all an illusion?

New Opponent For Dave Allen on Halloween | boxen247.comEnter Christopher Lovejoy from the US, world rating 443 from 1,405, but somehow with a lofty rating with the WBA of number 15 (never surprised). Glossy on the outside but when you take a deeper look into his boxing record, something stands out. ALL BUT ONE BOUT WAS AGAINST A FIGHTER WITH A LOSING RECORD! Add to that, he has never been over three rounds with most ending in the first round. Game plan should be straight forward for Allen.

From nineteen opponents, they have a combined fifty one wins (that’s an average of 2.6 wins per opponent). Combined 192 losses. Combined 19 drawers. In total, his nineteen opponents have a combined record of 51-192-19.

Yes, you have to build a fighter up but prior to getting to win number nineteen, the opposition should by now have been at least against a modest journeyman….no. I have the greatest respect for any fighter that steps between the ropes, but the list of eighteen tomato cans in this case flatter to deceive.

Why has he not been stepped up in class especially as he is thirty six?

With all this in mind, I believe this will be a treat for Allen.

“I’m looking forward to this fight with Chris,” said Allen. “He’s positioned 15th with the WBA and I’d love to take that World ranking. He’s a big, strong man and just look at his record – He’s done what’s been asked of him in those 19 fights. There’s not much footage of him, so I don’t know really know what I’m preparing for which adds to the intrigue but I’m going in there to do a number on him.”

“I finally made it here to the U.K!” said Lovejoy. “I’m here to shock the world and show what Chris Lovejoy is really about. Dave will end up number 20 on my record. I’ve traveled a long way so I just hope he shows up!”

“This is fascinating,” added Eddie Hearn. “Here we have this giant in Christopher Lovejoy that has amassed 19 wins with 19 KO’s against limited opposition and has somehow found himself in the world top 15. The truth is, he might be an absolute beast or he may get found out but for Dave Allen it’s a huge opportunity. There will be plenty of eyeballs on this fight and if Dave can get the win he will force himself into the World rankings and land a major fight in 2021. I have absolutely no idea what’s going to happen but I’m excited to find out!”

With one week to go, you cannot ask for much at this short notice. But what if he actually is good and the bad

record is just a red herring?

Maybe, just maybe….this could be a trick for Allen. One thing is for sure, Lovejoy is an unknown quantity. He could be hopeless, he could be the next Tyson, you just can’t tell. So intrigue is there, like the main event (even if for different reasons).

I love Halloween, this years I think will just top them all.
