On this day: George Dixon, 1st African American to win world title was born
July 29th, 1870
In Halifax, Canada, George Dixon was born. George would go on to make history, being the first African American to conquer a world championship and the first in winning two weight categories- bantamweight and featherweight.
For us, the historic achievements of Dixon, are not sufficiently recognized.
