On This Day: “Hands of Stone” Duran Conquered the WBC Title

Panamanian idol Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran, conquered the WBC lightweight championship after defeating Puerto Rican, Esteban de Jesus, by TKO in the 12^th round. Duran defended the WBA crown and conquered the WBC one. It ended at minute 2 with 32 seconds. The Referee was Buddy Basilico and the Judges were Art Lurie, Isidro Rodríguez and Richard Steele.

Enero 21, 1978.- El ídolo panameño y uno de los mejores pugilistas latinoamericanos de la historia, Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Durán, conquistó el campeonato mundial WBC de peso ligero, venciendo por nocaut técnico en doce asaltos al puertorriqueño Esteban de Jesús. Durán defendió la faja WBA y disputó la del WBC, que poseía el isleño. Todo terminó a los 2 minutos con 32 segundos. El referí fue Buddy Basilico y en calidad de jueces actuaron Art Lurie, Isidro Rodríguez y Richard Steele.
