On This Day: Jim Jeffries Defended his Heavyweight Crown in 1900
April 6th, 1900
Undefeated James Jackson Jeffries, better known as Jim Jeffries, defended his heavyweight world championship knocking out John Finnegan in the first round. Finnegan had the most unfortunate nickname of: “Punching Bag of Pittsburgh.” The bout took place at the Cadillac A.C. Detroit, Michigan. The Referee was George Siler who concluded the fight at just 55 seconds!
