On This Day: Jun Il Byun Defended WBC Bantamweight Title

Jun Il Byun vs. Josefino Suarez

May 28th, 1993

South Korean southpaw, Jun Il Byun defeated Mexican Josefino Suarez, via unanimous decision conquering the WBC bantamweight title. The fight took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. The Referee was Richard Steele. While the Judges were Ken Morita, Bruce McTavish and Gus Mercurio.  Byun then surprisingly lost his next two fights and retired from boxing.
