Muhammad Ali defended his WBC heavyweight championship after defeating Alabama´s mighty puncher, Earnie Shavers, by UD in 15 rounds. The fight took place at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Referee was Johnny LoBianco. The Judges were Eva Shain and Tony Castellano. At the end of the bout Muhammad Ali commented that Earnie, who he dubbed The Acorn, was the most powerful puncher he’d ever fought.
