American, Paul Pender, defeated “Paddington Express” Terry Downes by unanimous decision at the Boston Garden in Massachusetts. With this victory he defended the crown he conquered after defeating the immortal Sugar Ray Robinson. The Referee was Jimmy McCarron. While the Judges were Harry French and Joe Blumsack. Pender announced his retirement from the ring just one month after this triumph.
