Orestes “El Tsunami” Velazquez out to capture first title tomorrow
Rising junior welterweight Orestes “El Tsunami” Velazquez looks to capture his first title when he battles Guillermo Crocco for the WBA Continental Americas junior welterweight championship Sunday, December 11 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.
The Velazquez-Crocco bout headlines the WBA KO Drugs card airs live on CBS Sports Network as part of a tripleheader beginning at 7 pm et.
Known as “El Leoncito,” Crocco is a native of Argentina with an excellent 20-2-1 record with 6 KO’s. He’s stopped two of his last three opponents and is confident he’ll emerge victorious Sunday night.
Originally from Cuba but living and training in Las Vegas, NV, Velazquez is 5-0 with all his wins coming by knockout. In only his third pro fight, Velazquez scored an impressive 8th round stoppage of previously unbeaten Abram Martinez (9-0-1). Three months later, he stopped former world champion Juan Carlos Salgado in two rounds.
Set to fight on the biggest stage of his career, Velazquez is looking forward to showing the boxing world he’s a force to be reckoned with.
“I am very excited to be fighting on the WBA KO Drugs card for my first title in the United States,” said Velazquez. Training camp has gone very well with my new trainer Ismael Salas and I am ready for whatever my opponent brings Sunday night. I am an aggressive, action-oriented fighter and look forward to putting on a great show for the fans in person and everybody watching on TV.”
Velazquez’ promotional team also believes he’s a special fighter who will be recognized as one of the best junior welterweights sooner than later.

The WBA KO Drugs card has 9 title fights and features boxers from all over the world. Tickets from $40 are on sale at ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 3 pm and the first fight begins at 4.
