Óscar Valdez vs. Robson Conceicao
Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, USA 10/9/21
Super featherweight world champion of the World Boxing Council, Óscar Valdez, will defend his title for the first time, on September 10 at the Casino del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, when he faces the Brazilian, Robson Conceicao, who defeated Valdez when they were amateur fighters, for the gold medal of the Pan American Games 2009.
Originally from Nogales, Sonora, Valdez moved to Tucson, Arizona, when he was a child and there, he spent his first years of school years before returning to Mexico. Oscar cemented his status as one of the most notable faces in Mexican boxing with his 10th round knockout of former champion Miguel Berchelt.
Valdez turned professional almost four years before Conceição, who made history as the first Brazilian boxer to capture Olympic gold. Originally from Bahia, Conceição made his professional debut in November 2016 on the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Vargas undercard. He knocked out four of his first five opponents. Last October, he survived an early knockdown to defeat Louie Coria by unanimous decision. He last fought on April 10 in Tulsa and knocked out Jesús Antonio Ahumada in the seventh round.
Oscar, who undergoing a rugged training camp in California with his trainer Eddy Reynoso, commented: “I am very excited to fight in my second home, Tucson, Arizona, where I will have my first defence of the WBC super featherweight world title.” Valdez also said. “It motivates me to know that I will defend the title in front of my friends and my family, and I will be willing to risk everything as always. I come to give my people a great show, and I can’t wait to see them on September 10.”
