Rey Vargas Going Straight For Gary Russell Jr.

Former WBC super bantamweight world champion, Rey Vargas is swiftly seeking to bustle a new world title in the featherweight division, ruled by champion Garry Russell Jr.

 For Rey, who is used to facing great challenges, leaving the super bantamweight title was a difficult decision because it was a dream come true, a championship that filled him with pride.

He conquered the crown on February 25, 2017 defeating Gavin McDonnell and then making five successful defenses. However, he was also clear, saying that now he is ready for a new challenge, as he wants make history in boxing and by conquering new divisions.

With full confidence that he will soon leave behind the issue of the leg fracture he suffered, which obliged him to leave the ring for almost ten months, Rey is enthusiastic and eager to return to the ring through the big door,  as opportunity knocks. 

On how he expects the fight with Gary to map out, Vargas recognizes the boxing quality of the American southpaw, but stresses that he has all the skills necessary to beat him.

Regarding how his preparation will be, Rey said that in 2021 nothing and no one will stop his plans, so he studies the option of doing the camp at home and not at the Romanza gym, because in this way he can work in an environment controlled, with fighters who would also be with him without having to be moving to other places and exposing themselves to contagion.

El excampeón mundial supergallo WBC, Rey Vargas platicó con la prensa especializada de los nuevos planes que tiene ahora que buscará un nuevo título del mundo ahora en la división de peso pluma; sin embargo, para que esto suceda deberá enfrentar al actual monarca Garry Russell Jr.

Para Rey, quien está acostumbrado a enfrentar grandes retos, dejar el título supergallo fue una decisión difícil pues fue el sueño hecho realidad, un campeonato que lo llenó de orgullo y con el que dejó una gran trayectoria desde que coronó aquel 25 de febrero de 2017 venciendo a Gavin McDonnell y del cual realizó 5 exitosas defensas. Sin embargo, también fue claro, al decir que ahora está listo para un nuevo desafío, pues si algo desea es dejar un legado en el boxeo y sabe que el siguiente paso para logarlo es convertirse en campeón del mundo en una nueva división.

Con plena confianza en que pronto dejará atrás el tema de la fractura que sufrió en la pierna y que lo obligó a alejarse de los encordados alrededor de 10 meses, Rey se muestra entusiasta y ansioso de regresar al ring por la puerta grande y más ahora que tiene la oportunidad de cristalizar otra meta.

Sobre como espera el encuentro con Gary, Vargas reconoció la calidad boxística del estadounidense, no por ello el historial que tiene de 31 peleas ganadas y una solitaria derrota, pero también fue contundente al decir que él tiene todas las habilidades y armas necesarias para vencerlo, pues este, es un choque de dos campeones del mundo, además, como ligera ventaja, él llega con récord invicto.

Sobre cómo será su preparación, Rey fue contundente al decir que este 2021 nada ni nadie detendrá sus planes, por lo que estudia la opción de hacer el campamento en su casa y no en el gimnasio Romanza,  pues de esta manera puede trabajar en un ambiente controlado, con púgiles que también estarían con él sin necesidad de estar trasladándose a otros lugares y exponiéndose a un contagio.
