Samuel Antwi: These Fights Bring the Best Out of Me
Samuel Antwi says he will take full advantage of any lapses in concentration that Darren Tetley has when the two men meet for the vacant English welterweight title on next Friday’s huge #MTKFightNight.
Antwi (12-1, 5 KOs) faces Tetley (20-1, 9 KOs) at the University of Bolton Stadium on Friday 19 February, live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.
Both men are extremely confident heading into the fight, but Antwi has vowed to add the English title to his growing collection.
Antwi said: “I’m really happy to be fighting at the start of 2021 and even happier that it’s for the English title. After winning the Southern Area championship some fights ago, this is the next step up the ladder.
“I don’t know much about Tetley, but I know he has had quite a few fights and will be game opposition. I also know that these are the kind of fights that bring the best out of me. He’s a decent fighter but I plan to take full advantage of anything I’ll see on the night of the fight.
“Training has been going well and I’m on track to be sharp and ready to peak and put on a show on February 19th. I’m thankful for the opportunity that Dave Coldwell has presented me, and I plan on grabbing it with both hands.”
Elsewhere on next week’s huge card, Sean McComb and Gavin Gwynne meet for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title, DP Carr defends his Southern Area super-featherweight title against Dean Dodge, Pierce O’Leary fights Irvin Magno, Mark McKeown takes on Brad Daws, Paddy Donovan returns, and Mohammed Sameer is back in action.
