Spotlight on: Raphael Zumbano – Former UBO title challenger
In October of 2013, Brazilian Raphael Zumbano, AKA Zumbano Love, challenged for the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Heavyweight title, losing on points to Fabrice Aurieng in France.
But that was only one of many big nights in the ring for Zumbano, who is a grandson of Brazil’s first ever boxing Olympian, Ralph Zumbano, and a cousin of arguably the best Bantamweight of all time Eder Jofre.
Between 2005 and 2019, he compiled a record of 39-17-1 (31), taking on all comers all over the world. Based in Las Vegas, he has fought in ten different countries.
Zumbano is a former Sao Paolo State champion, Brazil national champion, South America champion, WBA Fedebol champion, WBF International champion and IBF, WBO and WBC Latino champion.
Albeit in losing efforts, he has shared a ring with former or future world champions, Anthony Joshua, Shannon Briggs, Andy Ruiz and Charles Martin, and contenders Eric Molina, Otto Wallin, Alexander Ustinov and Filip Hrgovic.
He obviously didn’t reach the amateur highs of his grandfather, or achieve close to what his cousin achieved in the professional game, but Raphael Zumbano was, at his best, a good, solid heavyweight who did a lot with what he had.
