Sunny Edwards Becomes World Champion
Sunny Edwards Defeats Moruti Mthalane
Sunny Edwards produced a masterclass as he defeated Moruti Mthalane to win the IBF flyweight title on Friday.
Edwards (16-0, 4 KOs) was dominant throughout the fight, with his incredible skills leading to him taking the belt from defending champion Mthalane (39-3, 26 KOs).
It was clear there was one winner when the final bell rang, with the judges scoring it to see Edwards become Britain’s latest world champion.
Edwards said: “It’s nothing less than I expected. It was a quiet build-up, but I knew it would be hard. I feel like I deserved to win and I think his team felt it too. I’m very hard to beat.
“After the sixth round, he came out quick in round seven and eight, but I was frustrating him and I knew he was start flagging at the pace. He sharpness fell in the last few rounds.
“Getting stopped isn’t in my thought process, and hopefully won’t be for the rest of my career. I’m glad I put on a show and we have the belt now which is what I came here for.”
