In the co-main event battle between two unbeaten heavyweights, Frank Sánchez (19-0, 13 KOs) scored one knockdown on his way to a comfortable, 10-round unanimous decision win over Efe Ajagba.

Sánchez used his superior boxing skills to keep the hard-hitting Ajagba (15-1, 12 KOs) off-balance for the entire fight. The “Cuban Flash” displayed his power as well, flooring Ajagba with a hard right in the seventh. A follow-up left hook which landed a tick after Ajagba’s knee hit the canvas and caused referee Mike Ortega to warn Helenius.

Ajagba made it to his feet and survived the round but never seriously threatened on his way to the first defeat of his career.

Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena promises to be a historic. The main event is the third clash between the WBC champion, Tyson Fury, and the challenger and former world champion, Deontay Wilder.

On the undercard there will be a fight that will determine the careers of two heavyweight prospects.

With a combined undefeated record of 33 won fights with 25 KOs and 0 losses, WBC Americas Continental Champion, Frank Sanchez, will attempt to defeat Nigerian Efe Ajagba.

Efe Ajagba who has a record of 15 wins with 12 KOs, is backed by Top Rank and was part of the training camp of the WBC champion, Tyson Fury, as the monarch’s team believed that Ajagba’s power is similar to Wilder´s.

Frank Sánchez, of Cuban origin, has an undefeated record of 18 wins with 13 KOs- He is directed and guided  by  Eddy Reynoso.

It is usual to see him train alongside the former heavyweight world champion, Andy Ruiz, and sparring with the unified super middleweight champion, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.

Fighters with similar ages, records and characteristics. With hunger and determination to conquer glory in the division. A zero must depart this weekend.

Nigerian Olympian Efe Ajagba is completing final preparations for his highly anticipated showdown with Cuban foe Frank Sanchez on October 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will be featured on the all-heavyweight undercard of Fury vs. Wilder III live on ESPN+ and FOX Sports PPV.

The 6-6 power puncher views Sanchez as a very skilled fighter and he has been working closely with trainer Kay Koroma and his team in preparation their October 9 contest. Ajagba resumed training camp near his Houston-area home last month following the card’s postponement and has moved camp to Las Vegas to complete his final preparation.

Like many of the fighters on the card, the fight postponement was difficult for Ajagba but a special delivery brightened the early days of the delay. Ajagba and his girlfriend Tiya welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Tahari, in early August. Ajagba treasures being a father and says that playing with his son, Tiyon, is one of his favorite pastimes when he’s not training and he’s enjoyed spending precious time with his baby girl since her arrival.

Known for his thunderous punching power, Ajagba already participated in a knockout of the year contender in his April bout with Brian Howard, viciously ending the bout in the third round with his signature right hand.

Ajagba has been known for his massive punching power since his amateur days, scoring a knockout in his first bout of the 2016 Olympics as the only member of the 2016 Nigerian Olympic Boxing Team. He then went on to score the fastest victory in boxing history when his opponent exited the ring before the opening bell in 2018.

Ajagba plans to showcase additional elements of his arsenal in addition to punching power when he steps in to the ring on October 9 in his first PPV appearance.

Efe Ajagba is most known for his devastating punching power and that special talent was evident from the first punch Ajagba threw. Yet it didn’t come in a boxing ring, but in a street fight in his native Nigeria. His friends who witnessed the altercation couldn’t help but see Ajagba’s pugilistic talent and encouraged him to take up the sport of boxing. An all-around athlete, he had played soccer, the most popular sport in Nigeria (and worldwide) as well as participating in track and field. Yet he had never previously considered boxing.

When deciding whether to take up the sweet science, Ajagba sought the advice of his mother and she encouraged him to give it a shot. She could have never have known at the time where the sport would take him. He began boxing at the age of 17 and the early days were extremely challenging as he juggled training with his work at a bakery in his hometown of Ughelli in the Delta State of Nigeria. The teenager was helping to provide for his family and needed to work to help put food on the table. His amateur coach saw the challenges he was facing and created a schedule that allowed him to more successfully balance his training time with his hours at work.

Ajagba soon got the call to compete in the State competition and then the national boxing trials. He knocked out each of his opponents en route to a spot in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Ajagba grabbed his first international medal at the event, winning a bronze medal for Nigeria.
Yet, the international success didn’t provide the financial rewards that Ajagba and his family were hoping for so he continued to balance his work responsibilities with training. The financial challenges didn’t diminish Ajagba’s focus on the goal of competing in the 2016 Olympic Games. He knew that boxing in the world’s biggest sporting event would open doors for his professional career and he was right. Ajagba clinched a spot in the 2016 Olympics with a gold medal at the African Olympic Qualifier in Cameroon. He was the only Nigerian boxer to earn a berth in the Rio Olympics and would soon head to Brazil as a one-man team.

He opened the Olympics with a devastating first round knockout and his performance quickly caught the eye of many key figures in the professional boxing world. Ajagba advanced to the quarterfinal round in Rio before dropping a decision to top ranked Ivan Dychko from Kazakhstan.

Following his Olympic run, he decided to enter the paid ranks and moved to the United States to begin his professional career. He made his professional debut in California in July of 2017 and began racking up knockout victories. The 6-6 heavyweight has built a perfect 15-0 record with 12 of those wins coming by knockout. His powerful right hand intimidates many foes, even causing his sixth professional opponent Curtis Harper to exit the ring before the opening bell, giving Ajagba the fastest victory in history.

Ajagba settled in the Houston area upon moving to the United States and has remained there since making the move. Not long after arriving in the U.S., he met his girlfriend Tiya, and she helped him get acclimated to his new country. From teaching him to drive to working with him with his English, he credits her with helping him adapt to the American system. The two of them now have two children – a son, Tiyon and a baby daughter, Tahari, who was born this past August. Ajagba says that he is so blessed to be a father and it’s a role he’s been wanting for a long time. When he’s not training, he loves to play with his son and help him release all his energy at a local park.

The move to the United States has kept Ajagba from seeing his family in Nigeria for four years but he remains connected with them regularly through What’s App and hopes that his parents will get the chance to meet their grandchildren soon.

The Nigerian Olympian hopes to use his story of overcoming obstacles to encourage and uplift others, particularly children. Although he came from a poor family in Nigeria, he worked hard, believed in himself and remained focused on his goals no matter the challenges he was facing. He wants others to know that no one will fight as hard for them as they will for themselves so it’s important to lock in fully on their individual goals and chase them with all their might.

Ajagba is currently preparing for his 16th professional fight with fellow undefeated heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez of boxing powerhouse Cuba. The bout will highlight the undercard of the Tyson Fury – Deontay Wilder fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on October 9.

Four big heavyweight fights in one historic night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Three can’t-miss heavyweight showdowns have been added to the televised PPV undercard of the highly anticipated third fight between WBC and lineal heavyweight world champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury and former heavyweight world champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder.

In the 10-round co-main event, 2016 Nigerian Olympian “The One and Only” Efe Ajagba will take on fellow unbeaten Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sánchez. The PPV telecast also includes the 12-round rematch between Finland’s Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius and Polish star Adam “Babyface” Kownacki, who was stopped by Helenius in the fourth round of their first bout in March 2020.

The eight-round PPV opener will see Toledo-born Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson step up in class against undefeated Russian contender Vladimir Tereshkin.

Tickets for Fury vs. Wilder III are on sale now and can be purchased at www.t-mobilearena.com or www.axs.com. The event is promoted by Top Rank, BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. A Premier Boxing Champions presentation.

Ajagba (15-0, 12 KOs) turned pro in July 2017 and soon established himself as one of the division’s fiercest one-punch knockout artists. He showed his mettle when he rose off the deck to knock out Iago Kiladze in December 2019, and three months later, he broke down and stopped former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu in the ninth round. He last fought in April in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and knocked out Brian Howard with a single right hand in the third round.

“I am honored to be fighting on the Fury-Wilder III PPV as the co-main event,” said Ajagba. “I have been patiently waiting for this opportunity to showcase my skills. My fans — and critics — can expect to see more jabs, head movement, footwork and power in both hands against Frank Sánchez. July 24 is going to be a special night for ‘The One and Only’ Efe Ajagba.”

An amateur standout from his native Cuba, Sánchez (18-0, 13 KOs) now trains in San Diego with coach Eddy Reynoso. The 28-year-old has stayed busy on his rise up the heavyweight rankings, scoring three victories in 2020 as he earned a unanimous decision over Joey Dawejko and stopped Brian Howard and Julian Fernandez. Sanchez most recently won a technical decision over Nagy Aguilera in May and will look for an important victory over the fellow unbeaten Ajagba that could catapult him up the heavyweight division.

“I am excited to make my case as the top heavyweight title contender on the best pay-per-view card of the year,” said Sánchez. “I look forward to fighting Efe Ajagba and coming out victorious. Boxing fans want to see the best fight the best. People say Efe Ajagba is avoided, and that’s exactly why I chose to fight him. Fans can expect a great fight between two undefeated heavyweights July 24.”

In just his second stateside outing, Helenius (30-3, 19 KOs) shocked the crowd at Barclays Center by handing Kownacki the first loss of his career via a fourth-round TKO. Born in Sweden and fighting out of Mariehamn, Finland, Helenius established himself as one of Europe’s top heavyweights and knocked out Erkan Teper in September 2018 to move up the rankings. Prior to dropping his U.S. debut to Gerald Washington in 2019, the 37-year-old had won six of his last seven fights, with his lone blemish coming against Dillian Whyte.

“I’m looking forward to repeating my first performance against Kownacki on July 24,” said Helenius. “Boxing fans can expect another incredible fight with my hand raised in victory once again. All of Finland will be behind me when I show the world why I am most deserving of a world title fight. My only goal is to be world champion and unfortunately for Adam he stands in my way.”

Kownacki (20-1, 15 KOs) will be seeking revenge for the first loss of his career when he rematches Helenius on July 24. The 31-year-old Kownacki, who was born in Lomza, Poland and moved to Brooklyn when he was seven, is noted for his tenacity and had been progressing towards a world title shot with knockouts in five of his last seven fights prior to the March 2020 defeat to Helenius. Kownacki owns victories over former world champion Charles Martin and former title challengers Gerald Washington and Chris Arreola. His August 2019 battle against Arreola set CompuBox records for heavyweights in combined power punches thrown and landed.

“I’m very excited to be back in the ring,” said Kownacki. “The pandemic made things hard for everyone, but things are getting back to normal. Being a part of an all-heavyweight pay-per-view like this feels great, and it’s a great thing for fans of our sport. This pay-per-view will be action-packed from top to bottom. I can’t wait to get my revenge against Robert Helenius. It’s been a long year waiting for the rematch, but I’ll be getting a victory on July 24. I feel like things will get back to normal and I will prove that I am one of the top heavyweights in the world.”

Anderson (9-0, 9 KOs) has not tasted the final bell as a professional, a dominant run that began with a first-round stoppage in his pro debut less than two years ago. He has five first-round knockouts and became the breakout star of the MGM Grand Las Vegas Bubble, where he went 5-0. After closing out his Bubble run with a sixth-round knockout over Kingsley Ibeh, Anderson returned April 10 with a second-round blitzing of Jeremiah Karpency. Anderson was Fury’s primary sparring partner for the Wilder rematch and will serve in the same capacity for the trilogy bout. Tereshkin (22-0-1, 12 KOs) a 6’6 southpaw, is a 14-year professional who has won 14 consecutive fights since the lone draw on his ledger.
