The rescheduled tentative date for the rematch of Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin is not possible according to Povetkin’s promoter Andrei Ryabinsky.
“We will try, but I think that by January 30 Alexander is unlikely to recover,” Ryabinsky said to Vasily Konov Jr.
Povetkin is out of hospital to continue his recovery at home.
“The situation is, the fight he wants more than anything is Alexander Povetkin, because Alexander Povetkin beat him. I think that obviously he has to rectify that defeat or try to rectify that defeat. There is one fight, I believe, that he would take—and that’s Tyson Fury on December 5. Honestly, I don’t expect that to happen. At the end of the day, Dillian Whyte would fight Tyson Fury on December 5 if that fight came on.
“Realistically, we will postpone that fight to January 30. Any fighter who’s trained for eight weeks and loses his fight will say “I just want to fight.” Yesterday, that was very much the opinion—Dillian Whyte just wanted to fight, he wanted to make the PPV slot work.
“Chisora… Michael Hunter even threw his name in to the hat, for free apparently. That’s not a PPV fight, though, not with the clutter coming up. So, I said to Dillian, unless we get asked to fight Tyson Fury, which he would do in a heartbeat, then we just got to wait for January 30. That’s the fight we got to do and we will announce that in the next 24 hours.”

Due to Alexander Povetkin testing positive for COVID-19, the November 21st rematch between Povetkin and Dillian Whyte is off.
“Firstly we want to wish Alexander Povetkin a speedy recovery,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “This is a challenging time for shows. There will be lots of ups and downs over the next few months. We look forward to the fight happening in late January.”
“Unfortunately we got the news today that Alexander Povetkin is in [the] hospital after testing positive for Covid-19. The fight will now be rescheduled to a target date of Jan 30.”
“Povetkin contracted the coronavirus, he has a fever. There is another person on the team who tested positive, all measures have been taken. Everyone, including Povetkin, is isolated,” Andrei Ryabinsky to tass.
“Everything is fine, there are no physical threats. Alexander is in a good clinic, he only has a fever, but nothing critical. Alexander himself will not comment on anything further. He is focused on his treatment,” a team spokesman stated.
“Alexander Povetkin will retain the status of the official challenger for the WBC title,” said WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
“Alexander is now isolated in a Moscow facility, taking care of his health. The rematch will definitely take place in 2021.”

With the rematch only just a month away, the talk is now increasing as the intriguing return between Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin is happening on November 21st.
Ahead on points and down twice, Povetkin seemed destined for defeat before a left hook detonated on Whytes’s head that left him clean out for the count (and more). That’s boxing, but will that happen again?
Some call it a “lucky punch,” not David Haye who manages heavyweight Derek Chisora:
“It’s a very dangerous fight and it’s a fight that I think Dillian doesn’t want to accept it was nothing other than a lucky punch. He thought, ‘I was winning the fight’, which he was, ‘I had him knocked down twice in the fourth round and I was winning the fifth round until I got hit by one shot and that was it’. Anything can happen in boxing, it happens in the heavyweight division,” Haye told Sky Sports.
“I don’t think that’s the mindset you need. You can’t say, ‘You won because it was an anomaly’. That left uppercut that he threw knocked out Carlos Takam, in a very even fight, in a very good toe-to-toe fight. It’s a shot that he throws regularly. Derek was telling me when he sparred with him, he was getting hit with that shot, so it’s one of his shots, and to get hit with someone’s best shot isn’t very lucky is it.
“The guy has got a big shot. It’s like getting caught with Dillian Whyte’s left hook. You know it’s there if you can practice to go under it, if you throw your right hook to the body or not, or you can stand up and get knocked out.”
