Esteban Bermúdez vs. Carlos Cañizales
Mexican Esteban Bermúdez hit two portentous forehands in the sixth round to knock out Venezuelan Carlos Cañizales and snatch the World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Title from him.
From the opening bell the boxers came out to the exchange, the fight went to you for you and Cañizales was leading. However, the blows of the Aztec made a dent in the South American, who falls on the corner product of a right in the sixth round, surpassed the count of 8, but immediately Bermúdez was on him and finished the task with another right to the 2 minutes 38 seconds of that chapter.
“Thank God the blow came, I had it for the 12 rounds, but thank God this happened and to follow him now, I have become champion but this is where the most difficult thing comes from,” said the new champion.
The key to the fight for Esteban was that he managed to resist the onslaught of Cañizales: “I think I came out with the hope of being world champion, thank God we are now champions.”
