Stewart Burt vs. Corey McCulloch

Turnberry, Scotland – 19 February 2022
Scottish title action is the order of the night on Saturday February 19 when Fightzone broadcast an evening of boxing live from Turnberry, Scotland.
The Kynoch Boxing Promotions show is topped by an intriguing encounter between Glasgow’s Stewart Burt and Arbroath’s Corey McCulloch – with Burt’s Scottish Welterweight Title on the line.

The champion enters the contest as the more experienced man.  Burt – who won the title in 2018 with a win over Ally Black – has lost just twice in 17 fights since turning pro in 2014.  The 31-year-old will want to get back to winning ways though after a technical draw decision in October last year, when a clash of heads halted his fight with CJ Wood in the first round.

McCulloch – who coincidentally is also fresh off a four-round draw with Wood from July 2021 – has less miles on the clock.  The 28-year-old turned over in 2019 and has racked up a 4-1-1 record since, with his title tilt against Burt his first experience of championship action.

Appearing in the chief support slot will be Montrose’s John Docherty, 10-1, who will face hard hitting Ghanaian Super Middleweight Champion, Mawuli Folivi, 5-1 (5) in what promises to be a ding-dong encounter.  Also appearing on the evening will be Airdrie’s Elliott O’Donnell 1-0; Beth Arthur 1-0 from Larkhall; Ayrshire’s Arran McGarvie 3-0 (1); Darren Johnstone 1-0 from Wishaw, and debutant Alfie McArthur.

“Burt is from Glasgow; McCulloch is from Arbroath, and it’s a cracking 50/50 fight,” said Sam Kynoch, Head of Kynoch Boxing.  “Burt has the experience and was a top amateur, Corey has less experience but is arguably the fresher man.  It’s a fascinating one and I know a lot of people are undecided about which way it will go.  It really is a pick ’em fight and they’re both my guys, so I’m on the fence and not picking a winner!

“Chief support is John Docherty, who just has that very close loss to Jack Cullen.  John is very highly-rated, he was Commonwealth Bronze Medallist as an amateur and a Junior Gold Medallist in the Commonwealths.  So, he’s a quality operator and this will be his first fight with me.  His Ghanaian opponent is coming over here with a one hundred per cent KO record – so that’s going to be a really interesting fight to watch for the fans.

“The undercard is good too with Darren Johnstone, who’s 1-0 and is really good.  Arran McGarvie is 3-0, and we’ve got Beth Arthur on.  Beth got a good stoppage win on her debut and she’s been looking good in sparring.  I have high hopes for her, she’s a good addition to the women’s game and she’ll be a good one for the Fightzone viewers to follow.”
