VIP BOXING return with a bang in September by promoting SIX shows in 23 days – featuring no less than 60 exciting fights.
Also over the coming weeks several of VIP’s big name boxers will get worldwide exposure when they fight on DAZN televised bills.
VIP Boxing chief Steve Wood said: “It will be a mad and busy time for us all, but it was vital the boxers got work as we have been unable to promote a card since March 2020. There is so many quality debutants I signed during lockdown that have been raring to go for months.”
“Working with upcoming fighters gives me such a kick and developing these youngsters is what I enjoy more than anything.”
Although the fire is still burning, Steve is still planning to slowly exit from the management side of VIP Boxing. He explained: “Over the next few years some of my existing boxers will get managers licenses and I will be handing over fighters to them as I intend to move away from management. I will still be involved with all the currently signed boxers and this new crop excite me . In the future when I have passed the reigns over to carefully picked boxers I can trust to look after fighters I will be on hand to give guidance and any direction needed to make sure they all can fulfil their potential.”
“I’m buzzing that we’re back and the shows we have planned are all good ones . I can’t wait to see the new fighters progress and hopefully many will challenge for major honours down the line.”
VIP Boxing’s comeback begins on Friday September 3 at Liverpool Olympia.
The show is headed by the vacant Central Area Super-Lightweight title clash between local boy Nathan Bennett and Manchester’s Kane Gardner. Also in action is Nathan Quarless, Tom Aitchison, Brian Phillips, Matthew Rennie, Marcus Molloy, plus many debutants.
The University of Bolton Stadium hosts VIP Boxing on Saturday September 11 where there is a ten fight card planned including Super-Welterweight contender Jack Flatley, Super-Featherweight hope Aqib Fiaz, Jake James and Kyle Lomotey.
The ring in Bolton stays up for another ten fight card the following afternoon on Sunday September 12. Boxers who have contests lined up are James Moorcroft, Rhiannon Dixon, Jack Kilgannon, Luke Evans and Diego Costa, plus 5 quality debutants.
VIP Boxing returns to Liverpool Olympia five days later on Friday September 17 where Sean Cairns, Mason Cartwright, and Super-Flyweight prospect Brandon Daord are among the hopefuls in action.
Knowsley is the next stop on Friday September 24 where Jake Barton, Joe Kavanagh, Matt Davies, Steve Floyd, Ben Burnham and Desire Adami are part of the prospect stacked card.
Two days later on Sunday September 26 it’s back to University of Bolton Stadium where there will be a co-promotion with Alex Matvienko’s Elite Boxing. The bill will be announced shortly.
October looks like being another non-stop month of action. The first show is confirmed for Hull on Friday October 1. It’s a co-promotion with Tommy Coyle. More details will be announced about that star-studded event in August.
Besides their own small hall smashers, other VIP Boxing stars are in action around the World in the coming weeks. On Saturday (July 31), Jack Cullen had some huge exposure on DAZN when he got the best win of his career against two time World Super-Middleweight title challenger Avni Yildirím on Matchroom’s Fight Camp show in Brentwood.
Aqib Fiaz will have an eight rounder on the second week of Fight Camp in Eddie Hearn’s swanky Brentwood back garden.
Former British Super-Welterweight title holder Scott Fitzgerald continues his comeback on the third Fight Camp show of the summer on Saturday August 14, again on DAZN.
World class Super-Featherweight Zelfa Barrett boxes overseas for the first time in his seven year professional career in Mexico on Friday August 20. The Manchester man is current ranked fourth by the IBF for their vacant belt and15th by the WBO whose champion is Jamel Herring.
Wood added: “They are big opportunities, and fights where wins will lead to even bigger opportunities. The DAZN exposure is also crucial and if all four continue winning they could be challenging for the biggest prizes of all in 2022.”
Finally around 20,000 fans are expected to pack Leeds Rhinos Stadium on Saturday September 4 when former IBF World Featherweight champ Josh Warrington attempts to avenge his only professional loss when he meets Mauricio Lara in a rematch. A win here brings Josh back to where he needs to be, disputing world titles and fulfilling a dream of fighting in America.
Three other VIP boxers Zahid Hussain, Brandon Stansfield and debutante Mali Wright are all in action on that bumper card.
Over the next 12 months, Woody believes that many of the VIP boxers approaching championship level will get exposure on DAZN and Sky Sports.
He added: “I enjoy a fine working relationship with Eddie Hearn and the Boxxer group who are now working with Sky and I am sure that plenty other talent with VIP will also get the opportunity to shine on big stages.”
