Tonight, live from the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, the first gala of the 2022-2023 EOTTM season will be held and the promoter is back with a bang! For the finale, you’ll see Christian Mbilli (21-0, 19 K.-O.) in action against DeAndre Ware (15-3-2, 9 K.-O.). They respectively tipped the scales at 167.6 lbs for Mbilli and 168 lbs for Ware. The Montrealer by adoption will defend his WBC Continental of the Americas title and will try to win a second title, the WBA International middleweight title.
Also competing in the event to secure the semi-final, Simon Kean (21-1, 20 K.O.) will face Newfel Ouatah (18-4, 10 K.O.), while Mary Spencer (6-0, 4 K.O.) will face Cynthia Lozano (9-1, 7 K.O.) for the WBC Silver and WBA International 154 lbs. titles.
The event will be simulcast on the Punching Grace network at 7:00 p
Christian “Solid” Mbilli (21-0, 19 KOs) is out to dominate the 168 lb. weight category and plans on making a statement on September 9 as he fights his way to the top to claim a second title belt. The Eye of the Tiger protegé will face off against American DeAndre Ware (15-3-2, 9 KOs) for the WBC Continental of the Americas belt as well as the WBA super-middleweight belt, crowning the event at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, simulcast on the Punching Grace network beginning 7:00 pm.
5th in the prestigious Ring Magazine ranking and 3rd according in the WBC ranking, Christian Mbilli is enjoying a meteoric and well-deserved rise to the top of the rankings. Last March, Mbilli gave an explosive performance by knocking out Nadjib Mohammedi in the 5th round. This spectacular win laid the groundwork for his defence of the WBC Continental of the Americas title a second time, following his victory by unanimous decision against seasoned American Ronald Ellis. This last clash was Mbilli’s greatest career challenge, and he passed with flying colours, dominating every single round.
“My strategy is to position myself as the one to beat, the ultimate challenger, in the 168-lb category, and I’m putting in the time at the gym to make sure I’m ready. I don’t care who’s standing in front of me in the ring; I’m giving it my all in my quest for victory, and DeAndre Ware won’t stop me. I’m headed for my glory days and I plan to keep moving forward”, asserts Christian Mbilli.
Although he’s largely flying under the super-middleweight radar right now, DeAndre Ware boasts a well-rounded record that clearly reveals a versatile and strategic boxer who will prove to be a formidable opponent for Mbilli, who, notably, enjoyed a definitive win against Ronald Ellis by majority decision, allowing him to lay claim to the WBC Continental of the Americas and NABA-USA titles.
“We expect Christian to showcase his ability to adapt to any situation but stay focussed on the game plan. Ware is a boxer who can force Mbilli to adapt. He proved to be a formidable opponent against Ellis; he’s skillful and fast, and he’s exactly what we’re looking for to challenge Christian on his way to an eventual world championship,” notes Christian Mbilli’s trainer, Marc Ramsay.
The event’s semi-final will feature Simon Kean (21-1, 20 KOs) in his comeback against Shawndell Terence Winters, whom he knocked out in February in the 9th round. To her fans’ delight, Mary Spencer (6-0, 4 KOs) also leaps back into the ring after delivering an unforgettable performance on June 23 by knocking ex-world-champion Chris Namus to the ground three times in quick succession in the first round of a fight that was stopped by the referee. Luis Santana (6-0, 2 KOs), Leïla Beaudoin (6-0, 1 KO), Avery Martin-Duval (7-0-1, 4 KOs) and Christopher Guerrero (3-0) will also take part in the event.
In the next few days, Eye of the Tiger will reveal the complete undercard of the Mbilli vs. Ware event that will take place on September 9 at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal. Tickets are on sale as of Friday, July 22 at 8:00 am on Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.ca. Boxen247.com Boxing News Artur Beterbiev, Beterbiev vs. Browne, Cynthia Lozano, Kim Clavel, Marcus Browne, Marie-Eve Dicaire, Yesenia Gomez 0
Bell Center in Montreal, Canada – 17 December 2021
As officially announced last week, a mega boxing night is set for Friday, December 17 at the Bell Center in Montreal. Three world championship fights and four world belts will be contested there as part of this gala presented by Top Rank and Groupe Yvon Michel.
As the main attraction, unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (16-0-0, 16 KOs) will face WBC # 1 contender Marcus Browne (24-1-0, 16 KOs). The IBF & WBC light heavyweight titles belonging to the proud Chechen will be at stake in this explosive fight.
A Montrealer by adoption, Beterbiev is at the top of his game. In a fight against him, no one has so far been able to reach the limit. His mandatory New Jersey contender is a 30-year-old southpaw veteran who is known for his superior skills and intelligence in the ring. Beterbiev-Browne is a fight that will keep all spectators on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
In the super welterweight division, ex-IBF World Champion Marie-Eve Dicaire (17-1-0) will have the opportunity to regain her title against the powerful IBF # 5 rated Cynthia Lozano (9-0-0, 7 KOs) from Monterrey, Mexico. Dicaire will be in her 6th career world championship fight. She will try to become the 4th pugilist in Quebec to regain a world belt after Lou Brouillard in 1933, Arturo Gatti in 2004, and Jean Pascal in 2019.
“I am absolutely excited to participate in an event of this magnitude. Three world championships on the same map, it’s an incredible evening, never seen before! Following my loss to Clarissa Shields, I mentioned that I was going to use this experience as a springboard, to come back stronger. Now is my chance and I guarantee I will take it,” DiCaire said.
Quebec light flyweight Kim Clavel (14-0-0, 2 KOs), who very recently captured the WBC Silver title, will try to dethrone WBC champion Yesenia Gomez (18-5-3, 6 KOs). Gomez will defend her position for the 5th time since 2018. Clavel could become the 19th Quebec pugilist to conquer a world boxing title, from Jack Delaney in 1925 to the GYM’s Joachim Alcine in 2007.
“At last! After 15 years of boxing, my dream is coming true. I finally arrive at the most exciting moment of my athletic life: stepping into the ring for a world championship title. I know that facing Yesenia Gomez, who has been the longtime WBC light flyweight champion, is a tall order. I’m ready mentally and physically, I have what it takes to emerge victorious from this fight with the WBC light flyweight belt around my waist,” Clavel commented.
For GYM, it will be the 50th, 51st and 52 world championship fights in its history, which began in 2004.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Saturday, October 23), starting at 10 a.m. ET on evenko.ca. Group reservations can also be made by contacting GYM at info@groupeyvonmichel.ca
Full details of this unique event will be unveiled in the coming weeks. It will be broadcast live on ESPN + in the United States and distributed on pay-per-view in Canada, by Bell TV, Canal Indigo, Shaw TV and FITE.TV, as well as certain authorized commercial establishments.
