Hannah Rankin vs. Maria Lindberg
Tottenham Hotspur FC’s Banqueting Hall, London, England 5/11/21
It’s all eyes on Tottenham Hotspur FC’s Banqueting Hall this Friday (November 5) with one of the biggest fights in women’s UK boxing this year taking centre-stage.
History-maker Hannah Rankin – who was Scotland’s first ever female world champ – will attempt to become a two-time, double world champion by overcoming the challenge of Sweden’s Maria Lindberg for the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) World Super Welterweight Titles, live on Fightzone.

Rankin, 10-5 (2), is the bookies favourite ahead of the hugely-anticipated bout but Fight Academy promoter Dennis Hobson says no one should be ‘sleeping’ on Lindberg. The Scandinavian may be 44 but is always in great shape and comes into the contest with vital experience. A former holder of the IBF version of the world title, Lindberg has lost just seven times in 29 contests (every loss has been a title bout), stopped just once, and has 10 early finishes.
“I absolutely think people are ‘sleeping’ on Lindberg,” said Hobson, who has worked with multiple world champions including Ricky Hatton, David Haye and Clinton Woods. “I have high expectations of Hannah but I’m thinking ‘everyone seems to be taking this as a given’, and it’s not.
“As a trade fight, this is a 50-50, and that’s what people are looking past. And I don’t want it to be [a 50-50 fight] because I obviously want Hannah to win, but it’s a proper competitive fight – and so it should be as it’s for two world titles. This is a life-changing opportunity for Maria, and she’s not coming to play second fiddle. If Hannah shows any chink in her armoury then she’ll struggle. This could go either way, but hopefully Hannah takes control. She’s on a big stage, we’ve managed to get her this opportunity and now it’s over to her.
“This is a proper, competitive bona-fide world title contest and it’s going to be an exciting fight. Neither of them will take a backwards step, and there’ll be plenty of drama. I’m excited because it’s the first women’s world title fight I’ve been involved in and to have our first women’s world champion will be another breakthrough. Hannah is lovely, she’s got a great story, is intelligent and great to work with.
“I’ve made history a few times with different fighters and if Hannah wins, it builds on our legacy and shows again just what we’re capable of.”
Fight Academy present an evening of boxing at Tottenham Hotspur FC’s Banqueting Hall on November 5. Topping the bill will be Scotland’s Hannah Rankin versus Sweden’s Maria Lindberg for the IBO and WBA Super Welterweight Titles. Chief support sees Sheffield’s Sufi Ahmed and Manchester’s Michael Gomez Jr clash for the Central Area Super Featherweight Title.
Also appearing will be Enrique Alvarez from Texas; Lily Ella and David Jamieson from Glasgow; London’s Nathan Mizon , Portsmouth’s Ellis Booth and Norwich’s Stevi Levy.

Scotland’s Rankin and Lindberg, from Sweden, will meet for the belt at Tottenham Hotspur FC’s Banqueting Hall, with Rankin bidding to become a two-weight world champion. The 30-year-old won the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) version of the belt in June 2019 before losing it a few months later in her first defence to another Swede, Patricia Berghult.
Hannah – who also doubles as a professional musician – is recognised as one of the UK, and world’s, best super welterweights. The Scot, 10-5 (2), has been in with the globe’s best fighters and come away with plenty of plaudits each time. In 2018, Rankin gave Claressa Shields ten hard rounds in an away-from-home loss in the States; while last year she pushed big-hitting Savannah Marshall all the way before succumbing to defeat inside seven.
Lindberg will be another tough ask for the Brit. Vastly more experienced, the Malmo native has lost just seven times in 29 outings, and has stopped 10 opponents. A former world champion herself having previously held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) crown, Lindberg will put it all on the line against Rankin, knowing this is possibly her last chance at the big time. The Scandinavian fighter will enter the huge contest on the back of a stoppage loss after also losing to Savannah Marshall in April after being drafted in as a last-minute substitute opponent.
Known as a ferocious trainer and consummate professional, Hannah will leave no stone unturned in the build up to the biggest night of her career as she attempts to become Scotland’s second current world champion, alongside Josh Taylor.
“It would mean everything to me to win the WBA world title,” explained Hannah. “To become a two time world champion would be a dream. The WBA is one of the ‘big four’ world titles, so to be able to take that back to Scotland is a huge goal. I want to be an inspiration to young fighters coming through, so to win another world title would be really special.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be headlining and fighting for the world title on Fightzone. I’ve been so impressed with the set up, how the shows have been run and the great content that’s been on. There have been so many exciting fights that people wouldn’t normally get to see. It’s great these fighters now have this platform and for me to be headlining is going to be really special. I’m very proud to be working with them.”
Promoter Dennis Hobson stated: “I’m so proud to be getting this fight on. I’ve fallen in love with women’s boxing and want to get a world champion. Hannah is an absolute pleasure to work with, she’s an ambassador and a role model and she’s also very talented.
“We’ve got her this opportunity; we’re building a top stable at Fight Academy and I really do believe Hannah will become our first women’s world champ. It’s going to be a fantastic night”

Rotherham’s Kash Ali made a successful first defence of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Heavyweight Title with a retirement win over Germany’s Roman Gorst.
Gorst was 7-1, with six KOs before the bout, but didn’t get much chance to land anything significant on big Kash’s chin. Ali – who is now 20-1 (11) – never looked in danger, controlled the action, and landed an uppercut in round seven that broke the German visitor’s jaw – forcing a corner retirement. Kash will look forward to a step up next as he continues to cement himself in the European and world rankings.

Tommy Frank vs. Matt Windle
Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield, England 18/9/21
Wow! This was a fight that British boxing was looking forward to and it didn’t disappoint – take a bow … Tommy Frank and Matt Windle.
The little big men treated a vociferous crowd at a packed Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield to a 12 round war, that saw local man Frank become the first fighter from the ‘Steel City’ to win the British Flyweight crown.
A distance fight didn’t look on the cards after Matt was down on his haunches in round two from a solid right hand, but the Birmingham man showed the mettle he is known for, got back up and battled back.
Both men had success in a seesaw contest, but Windle appeared just too small to dent ‘Super’ Tommy, who ran out a unanimous winner on all three judges cards.

Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, England 18/9/21
Promoter and manager Dennis Hobson has warned heavyweight Kash Ali not to take his opponent lightly when he defends his International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Title this Saturday (September 18) at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena.
The Rotherham fighter faces Germany’s Roman Gorst in the first defence of his IBF crown, with all the action – including local man Tommy Frank bidding to become Sheffield’s first ever British Flyweight king against Birmingham’s Matt Windle – live on new boxing channel, Fightzone.

Since losing via disqualification and serving a ban for biting David Price in 2019, Ali has teamed up with trainer and mentor, Richard Towers. A former heavyweight contender himself, Towers has started to get the best out of the 29-year-old, 19-1 (10), who is now on a four fight winning streak since that solitary loss to Liverpudlian Price.
An unknown quantity, Gorst shouldn’t be overlooked as an easy night for Kash. The German turned pro in 2018 and in short time has amassed seven wins, six KOs, with a solitary points defeat in October last year when contesting his home country’s heavyweight crown. The 32-year-old is now back to winning ways after picking up a stoppage win in March and will eye Ali as the perfect opportunity to gate-crash the European heavyweight rankings.
“The level that Kash is moving into, they’re all banana skins,” said Hobson. “They’re heavyweights and if you get hit on the chin then you’re going to go over! If his mind isn’t right and he switches off, he could be in trouble.
“This is a huge opportunity for the German to win a version of the European Title, to get a world ranking, and get in line for a big payday against a bigger name. It’s a chance for Gorst to make a name for himself and put himself in the shop window.
“Under Richard Towers’ guidance, Kash seems to have moved to another level and we’ve just seen glimpses of what he’s capable of. There are going to be big opportunities for Kash on the heavyweight scene. We believe we’ve got a major player in him, but we’ve had a few upsets on our shows recently with home fighters being beaten, which just shows we’re putting them in competitive fights.
“Kash can’t afford to slip up here in what could well be a tricky fight.”
Fight Academy present an evening of boxing on Saturday September 18 at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena. Topping the bill is Rotherham’s Kash Ali defending his IBF European Heavyweight Title against Germany’s Roman Gorst. Chief support is the British Flyweight Title fight between Sheffield’s Tommy Frank and Birmingham’s Matt Windle.
Also on the undercard will be Grimsby’s Levi Giles; Charlie Schofield from Chorley, Lee Reeves of Limerick, Manchester’s Michael Gomez Jr, Nav Mansouri from Rotherham, and Sheffield’s Muheeb Fazeldin, Perry Howe and Shakiel Thompson.

If Frank, 13-2 (3), does manage to get the win in his home city at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena, he will become the first fighter from the ‘Steel City’ to win the Lonsdale Belt at that weight.
‘Super’ Tommy will not only face a tough opponent in Windle on the night, the 28-year-old also enters the contest under pressure to revive his career, after recent back to back defeats to Mexico’s Hugo Guarneros.
Windle’s stock is on the rise and confidence high ahead of the eagerly awaited battle after putting in a tremendous 12 round shift in June; beating – and putting down – Scotland’s previously unbeaten Neil McCubbin in a ‘Fight of the Year’ certainty.
In what won’t fail to be an exciting night of boxing – it’s heavyweight action in the main event with Rotherham’s Kash Ali making the first defence of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Title against heavy-handed German, Roman Gorst.
Ali, 19-1 (10), picked up the best win of his career in May to win the IBF crown, with a comprehensive beating of Czech puncher, Tomas Salek. The East European came to the UK with a fearsome KO record – having previously stopped 13 of 15 opponents – but was completely undone by Ali’s uppercuts, with the referee calling the action off in round three.
Gorst is another puncher that Ali will have to negotiate. The German has amassed six KOs from seven wins, with his single loss in October last year when he fought for Germany’s heavyweight crown. The 32-year-old is now back to winning ways after picking up a stoppage win in March and will eye Ali as the perfect opportunity to gate-crash the European heavyweight rankings.

It’s heavyweight action in the main event with Rotherham’s Kash Ali making the first defence of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) European Title against heavy-handed German, Roman Gorst (pictured).
Ali, 19-1 (10), is riding the crest of a wave after the best win of his career in May to win the IBF Euro belt, with an impressive blowout of Czech puncher, Tomas Salek. In great shape, Salek came to the UK with an impressive KO ratio – having stopped 13 of 15 opponents – but was no match for the devastating uppercuts of Ali, who finished his man in three rounds.
Gorst is another puncher that Ali will have to be wary about.
Kash, trained by former British heavyweight contender Richard Towers, says he is a much improved fighter – and person – to the man who was disqualified for biting David Price in 2019, despite getting the better of the big Liverpudlian. The 29-year-old knows it’s now or never for his career, and is promising Fightzone and Sheffield fight fans an explosive performance.
“Everything went right against Salek. We trained hard, sparred hard and it was my best performance yet. It was clean cut, good boxing and I took him out in style. We worked on the uppercut, I caught him early on, knew I’d hurt him, and it was the shot that finished him.
“I’ve seen one of Gorst’s fights. He’s got heavy hands and has stopped most of his opponents. He seems like a decent boxer too. His record speaks for itself. He can’t be lucky – he’s knocked out six, and lost on points to a decent kid, so he’s definitely not to be underestimated.
“I’ll just focus on what I do and get the win, no matter what. It may go one round or ten rounds, but I have the power and when I hit him it will have an effect on him. I’ll focus on my boxing and if an opening comes, I’ll take him out.”
Chief support on the night is a fabulous scrap for the Lonsdale Belt between local favourite Tommy Frank and Birmingham’s Matt Windle. This clash for the British Flyweight Title is hugely anticipated, a hard one to call, and has much riding on it for both men. Windle has a deceiving 6-3-1 ledger – with his losses highly disputed – and is full of confidence after a ‘fight of the year’ win over Scotland’s Neil McCubbin in June. Frank, 13-2 (3), is the betting favourite having been the former Commonwealth Super Flyweight champion, but cannot afford any slip ups after consecutive defeats to Mexican bogeyman Hugo Guarneros.

Taking place in Frank’s home city – at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena – Windle, 6-3-1, enters the contest as the fighter with momentum, coming in off the back of a ‘Fight of the Year’ victory against Scotland’s previously unbeaten Neil McCubbin in June.
Although more experienced, and having fought in better company, ‘Super’ Tommy, 13-2 (3), is the fighter with the greater pressure on his shoulders. Having not put a foot wrong in moving to 13-0, the former Commonwealth Super Flyweight champion now finds himself in a must-win situation after two defeats to Mexico’s Hugo Guarneros within the last year.
Windle and Frank are no strangers, with the pair having sparred in recent months. Ahead of the highly-anticipated dust up, Windle – who is also a professional poet and the former Poet Laureate of Birmingham – says ‘sparring is just sparring’ and explains why it took him no time at all to accept the challenge of facing Frank for the crown of Britain.
“When we sparred, me fighting Tommy wasn’t even in my thought processes or plans and we were at different weights, which is one of the reasons we went to spar him,” explained the engaging Brummie. “I never thought I could be fighting him two months later!
“On the back of the sparring, there are certain shots I think I could maybe work on but of course he’ll also be on the same wavelength. He’ll be working on particular shots where he had success in the spar, so we almost can negate each other in that respect.
“I’m mentally strong and haven’t got carried away by my successes against Tommy, or any shots that he caught me with. On both sides of the coin, I just say to myself ‘it’s sparring’.
“The British Title doesn’t exist at light flyweight [Matt’s preferred weight] and what pro boxer would turn down a British Title fight! The Lonsdale Belt is the most prestigious belt in boxing because although most boxers would choose a world title over a British Title, there are so many world titles these days that they they’ve almost become diluted … people can say ‘it’s only the IBO world title’, but they know you’re serious when you’re British Champion.
“When you get offered a fight for the Lonsdale Belt, even at relatively short notice, I’m not in this sport to say no to an opportunity like that. I’d be more disappointed to be sitting in the pub when I’m 50 having turned down a British Title chance, than to lose fighting for it, if that were ever to be the case.”
On a stacked card of boxing in Sheffield, Rotherham’s Kash Ali will also defend his IBF European Heavyweight Title (opponent to be announced soon), and Grimsby’s unbeaten Levi Giles, 9-0 (3),and Walsall’s Shaun Cooper, 10-2, will contest the vacant Midlands Area Super Featherweight belt in a genuine 50-50, trade fight.

Holmes has shone on Fightzone twice previously, building his record to 7-0 (1), and gets his toughest test yet when he headlines the Colne event. The 26-year-old will take on Berkshire’s Jonny ‘The Matador’ Phillips over six rounds in what should provide a useful yardstick on his level.
Phillips, has won five of 11, has never been stopped, and just two fights ago gave top prospect Hopey Pricey a competitive six round workout.
Holmes, from nearby Earby, was a successful amateur, winning 24 of 29 fights, and is now trained by Robert Rimmer. After signing to Fight Academy earlier in the year, Josh is aiming to start collecting titles over the next 12 months but will enter the ring with a note of caution from experienced manager, Kevin Maree.
“Jonny Phillips is a dangerous fighter and it’ll be a good test for Josh,” said Maree. “I know Jonny’s coming to win, he’s trying to turn his record around, and they really wanted this fight. So they’re coming with real confidence, and he’s been in with some top operators. I believe that Josh can perform at a higher level, but this is a tough fight.
“I’m expecting him to give me a good fight,” analysed Josh. “I’ve seen a bit of him before, he comes to have a real go and that’s what we’re looking for, a step up. He’s a good opponent but I’m aiming to get the job done on him.
“He’s coming for the victory and has got some good wins on his record. He’ll come out firing, which will suit me because he’ll end up walking onto something big. It’s really good to be fighting locally, I’ll have all my support there, a good crowd coming to watch me. You’ll see the crowd bouncing and it’ll be my best fight to date. There’s going to be some shots coming back at me, and I can’t wait!”

Packed Sheffield card including the return of Dave Allen this Friday

Dave Allen vs. Andrea Pesce
Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, England 27/8/21
Not only a quality fighter and social media phenomenon – Doncaster’s Dave Allen has also turned his hand to management; passing on his considerable knowledge of the fight game to a number of fledgling fighters.
The ‘White Rhino’ – who has faced top heavies including Luis Ortiz, Tony Yoka and Dillian Whyte – returns to the ring on August 27th at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena, live on Fightzone – appearing on the same undercard as two of his charges, Stevi Levy and Levi Kinsiona.

Norfolk’s Levy, 3-0, and Sheffield’s Levi Kinsiona, 7-1 (1), are part of the supporting cast to headliner Anthony Tomlinson. Undefeated at 13-0 (7), the 29-year-old Sheffield fighter will take on Mexico’s Dante Jardon, 33-6 (24), for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-Continental Welterweight Title.
Also on the card, another undefeated Sheffield fighter, super featherweight Kane Salvin gets the chance to defend his Central Area Title against Manchester’s Michael Gomez Jr. Salvin is 6-0, while Gomez Jr has lost just once in 14 outings, with the bout also seconding as an eliminator for the English crown.
Allen, 18-5-2 (15), hasn’t boxed since February 2020 and will get a six round workout against Italian Andrea Pesce, 7-13-3 (2) – who will view this as the perfect opportunity to cause an upset by adding Dave’s scalp to his record.
Allen’s ring ‘comeback’ is slated to be a low-key affair. The 29-year-old still harbours British Title ambitions but, after a painful 2019 defeat to David Price, says he will know when the time is right to call it a day, leaving him to fully focus on his stable of fighters.
“I signed Stevi in the first week in June and she had her first fight with me on the 25th of June, which she won. I’ve got a good relationship with Dennis [Hobson] and we got her out straightaway. She’s got a new manager and trainer, and she’s doing great. She’s not had any amateur fights, so she’s going to improve and I’m looking forward to her journey.
“I didn’t want to take on any top pros, or top amateurs turning over. All the amateurs I’ve trained were non-bouters, or one-bouters. I’ve had lots of good pros asking me train or manage them but I haven’t wanted to. I want to work with people like Stevi Levy and I want to see her do well. Fightzone is giving her the opportunity to box on TV, which she probably wouldn’t have got.
“I’ve also got Levi Kinsiona, who’s a really good prospect. In 2022, I think he’ll pick up the English Title and I believe he’ll win a British Title too.”

Louis Isaacs: He’s going to get taken out (Dan Morley)
Boxen247.com Boxing News Dan Morley, Dennis Hobson, Dennis Hobson Promotions, Fight Academy, Fightzone, Fightzone TV, Isaacs vs. Morley, Louis Isaacs, Mo Prior 0
Louis Isaacs vs. Dan Morley
York Hall, London, England 7/8/21
Louis Isaacs is super confident and in no mood to mess about ahead of his bill-topping slot at London’s famous York Hall on Aug 7 on a card promoted by Mo Prior, in association with Fight Academy.
The unbeaten Islington fighter gets his first real test as a pro when he takes on Epsom’s Dan Morley in an eliminator for the Southern Area Welterweight Title, live on Fightzone.

Both aged 24 with a perfect 6-0 record; on paper it’s hard to split the pair … but that’s not how Louis is eyeing the encounter. A former London amateur champion with over 50 wins from 75 bouts, the Londoner says he is on a different level to Morley and predicts an early finish if his opponent turns up for a fight.
“I’ve seen little bits of him, but I didn’t know him from the amateurs because he didn’t have that many fights, and our paths never crossed,” explained Isaacs, a full-time pro who used to be trained by Fightzone pundit, Glenn McCrory.
“I’ve seen a few YouTube clips of him [as a pro]. If he comes to fight he’s going to come unstuck because I’m a lot stronger than him, and if comes with a gameplan then I’ll outbox him.
“He’s a good fighter, he’s unbeaten, he’s confident but it’s going to be a bit too soon for him. He won’t come forward onto me, I know that for a fact. If he comes forward he’s going to get taken out, one hundred per cent.
“I’ve been in this pro game a long time. I’ve been in with top fighters in sparring and you can’t read too much into sparring, but I know what I can do. He’s never been in with a fighter like me, I tell you that. My amateur experience, all the training I’ve done with different trainers, I’ve learnt bits off them all.
“If I can’t beat him with my experience then I don’t know what to do! Every fight I go in like it’s my last, I put everything on the line. I’ve been boxing since I was seven; fighting all my life. I can do it all. I can box, I can fight, I can counterpunch on the back foot and front foot.
“Fightzone looks like a great platform for me to fight on and I’m looking forward to showing everyone what I can do – it’s about time!”
