Ebenezer “Hitman” Lantei Lamptey

Ebenezer “Hitman” Lantei Lamptey was 29-3 (22) when he fought Tommy Browne for the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Super Welterweight title in August of 2018 in Australia.

The puncher from Ghana had won five straight before going “down under”, and was considered a dangerous foe for the accomplished Browne.

Lantei Lamptey turned pro at eighteen in 2004, and won his first twelve bouts, ten of them by stoppage, before experiencing his first set-back in 2009, losing a decision to compatriot George Ashie.

Ashie went on to win Ghana, Commonwealth, African Boxing Union (ABU) and WBO Africa titles, so there was certainly no shame in that defeat.

Over the course of the next two years, Lantei Lamptey won another eight fights on the trot, putting him in line for a shot at the vacant WBO Africa Super Lightweight title.

On February 25, 2012 in Accra, he emerged victorious by unanimous decision over Eduardo Flores from Ecuador (which we all know is an African country???).

Between that fight and May of 2014, it was a bit of a roller-coaster for him, as he went 3-2 in five outings, losing championship bouts to very good opponents in Chad Bennett and Betuel Ushona, both of whom have won versions of a world title.

After losing to Ushona in Namibia, he decided to move up to Super Welterweight and put together the aforementioned five-bout winning-streak to secure the UBO world title fight with Browne.

Unfortunately for Lantei Lamptey he was hurt early by Browne, and got stopped in the third round. He has not boxed since.
