When Michi “El Matador” Munoz fought Bronco McKart for the Universal Boxing Organization™ (UBO) World Middleweight title in October of 2010, he entered the fight with a 22-5 (14) record.

Born in Leon, Mexico, the 30 year old was fighting out of Topeka, Kansas, which he still calls home, and while being an underdog he fancied his chances to make a name for himself against the well-known and highly respected McKart (52-9-1).

Munoz had been a pro for just over six years, won the NABC title, and only lost to good opponents in Joey Gilbert (13-1), Vanes Martirosyan (18-0), Carson Jones (20-7-1), John Duddy (26-1) and Noe Gonzalez Alcoba (23-1).

He believed he had learned from those defeats, as well as his victories, and came to McKart´s home-town of Monroe, Michigan, with every intention of spoiling the local hero´s party.

Unfortunately for him, McKart had done his homework, which was quite appropriate as the fight took place at his almer mater of Monroe High School.

The visitor proved vulnerable to the body, and McKart took advantage of this and scored a seventh round stoppage in impressive fashion.

After losing to McKart, Munoz won his next bout, and then didn’t fight for five years before returning in 2016. He won the first three of his comeback, but then things started going down hill.

Between April of 2017 and June of 2021 he has fought eleven times, winning only two, losing eight and drawing once.

His current record stands at 28-14-1 (19), and at forty years of age its probably safe to say his best days are behind him.

But at his best, Michi Munoz could give most opponents a rough fight. A true Mexican warrior.
