Carl Frampton Announces Retirement After Loss to Jamel Herring
Carl Frampton announced his illustrious career would be coming to an end, as he retired following his world title fight with Jamel Herring on Saturday.
Frampton came up short in his bid to become a three-weight world champion, but retires after winning world titles at super-bantamweight and featherweight.
His incredible career saw him fight all over the world, earning big wins in blockbuster fights against the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Nonito Donaire, Kiko Martinez and Scott Quigg.
The Belfast hero now gets the chance to enjoy his retirement with his family, after going down as one of the best boxers to ever lace a pair of gloves.
Frampton said: “I wanted nothing more than to dedicate this fight to Billy McKee, my old amateur trainer who sadly passed away recently. I’m not going to retire. I’ve been away so long from my wife and kids, and now I want to dedicate my life to them.
“I got beat by the better man, I struggled to get inside and he was sharp shooting from a distance. He had the perfect game plan, but it’s zero excuses from me. I had an amazing camp and I was coming into this fight to win, but it wasn’t to be.”
